The Becker girls track team had a great day at the Granite Ridge Conference Championship meet Tuesday held at Albany, winning the event by over 60 points.
The Bulldogs had eight all-conference participants in the 12 events plus three honorable mention team members. All-conference is awarded to the top two finishers in the individual events and the first place relay.
Honorable mention went to the third place individual and second relay. All-conference may also be earned by achieving a set standard for each event.
Senior Aubree Lahr placed in each of the four events she competed in. These included taking first in the pole vault with a PR of 9'10, second in the triple jump (33'9 1/2"), third in the 300 meter hurdles (PR time 50.74) and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (17.49).
Miranda O'Brien took second in the 100M hurdles with a PR time of 17.07 and seventh in the 300M hurdles (52.29).
Also in the triple jump, Haley Hubbard notched a PR score for third place (32'11).
In the 100M, Sydney Stommes took third (13.64), Cassidy Pleoger fifth (13.86) and Keeley Holm sixth (14.06). Pleoger and Holm also placed second and third in the 200 meters (28.54 and 28.65 respectively).
The 400 meters had Payton Anderson achieving a season best time (64.62) good for fifth, and in eighth place, Amelia Kirchner scored a PR (66.09). Makenna Noaeill just missed out on points, placing ninth, but attained a PR time of 66.17.
In the 800 meters, it was a stacked field with the returning champion just barely beating out Becker's Lexi Dehmer in a great race among the top five runners.
Julia Bengtson was barely edged out for third. Lexi's time was a PR of 2:22.90 (good enough for the MSHSL honor roll) and Bengtson ran 2:26.40.
Also in the 800M, Alayna Lindquist won her heat in dramatic fashion with a time (2;34..70), placing her eighth over all.
The top three places in the 1600 meters were taken by Becker, led by Dehmer (5;17.61 MSHSL honor roll time) in first, Bengtson (PR time 5:18.97) in second, and Alli Hendrickson (5:23.70 PR) in third, All three girls received all-conference.
After sweeping the 1600M, Becker took first, third and seventh in the 3200 meters.
Victoria Kolbinger won the race decisively with a time of 11:48.77. After her PR performance in the 1600M, Hendrickson placed third with a time of 11:56.94. Eighth-grader Courtney Nuest ran very well, taking over 20 seconds off her previous time and placed seventh.
Madi Kerzman won the discus with a toss of 111'7 and was third in the shot put at 32'9 1/2. McKenna Edling was fifth in 31'2 1/4.
Cienna Pleoger placed sixth in the long jump with her third PR in three meets (15'1 3/4).
Hendrickson jumped 4'8 for fourth place and Hubbard 4'6 for seventh in the high jump.
The 4x800M relay team of Lindquist , Adeline Kent, Kolbinger and Jackie Yeorg placed third in a tight race that saw the girls battling with Albany the entire race. Yeorg outkicked her counterpart for the team to beat them by 3/100th of a second.
The 4x200M relay team of Cassidy Pleoger, Kayden Westin, Noaeill, and Sydney Stommes placed fifth (1:55.41).
The 4x100M relay runners of Hubbard, Severson, Keeley Holm and Stommes took third with a good time of 52.96.
“We were happy with decent hand offs in both relays after struggling earlier this season,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy.
Becker finished the meet with the 4x400M relay. While Albany won the race with 4:19.99, Becker and Mora were not far behind with both teams getting 4:20.84.
Team scores: 1). Becker 184; 2). Foley 120.5; 3). Little Falls 85.5; 4). Albany 83; 5). Mora 75; 6). St Cloud Cathedral 57; 7). Zimmerman 55.5; 8). Milaca 41.5.
All-conference members are Miranda O'Brien (100M hurdles), Bengtson (1600M, 800M), Dehmer (1600M, 800M), Hendrickson (1600M, 3200M), Cassidy Pleoger (200M), Kolbinger (3200M), Lahr (pole vault, triple jump), Kerzman (discus).
Honorable mention goes to Stommes (100M), Holm (200M) and Hubbard (triple jump).
“We are really proud of our girls and they did exactly what was asked of them,” said Reimer-kealy. “I really need to applaud their efforts and teamwork. I also want to give a shout out to the entire coaching staff of Paul Schmidt, Josh Ihrke and Dustin Weege, each work hard with our kids. We all enjoy working with the girls and boys on our teams.”
