Lady Bulldogs Go 3 2 In Five Game

The Bulldog girls softball team hosted a tournament Saturday, then hosted Monticello Tuesday and Albany Thursday. Becker Invitational Becker 15,  Duluth Denfeld 0 In the quarterfinals of Becker’s own tournament Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs picked up a four-inning run-rule win over Denfeld. 
 
Nine different players had base hits for the ‘Dawgs, with Sydney Lamott leading the way, going 2-for-2 with two walks and four runs scored.  
 
Corrie Weise picked up the win, pitching the first three innings while  Catrina Holm came on to pitch the final inning.
 
Anoka 9, Becker 1
In the semifinals, the Bulldogs took on #2-ranked Anoka Tornadoes.  
 
After the Tornadoes plated two runs in the top of the first, Ellie Schwartz led off the bottom of the inning for the Bulldogs with a triple. She scored on a ground ball from Weise to make the score 2-1.  
 
Anoka added another run in the top of the third and then opened the game up with four runs in the fourth.  The Tornadoes added two insurance runs in the sixth to complete the scoring.  
Schwartz was 2-for-3 and Kaylyn Wiehle went 1-for-2 with a walk.  
 
Brianna Corey pitched well, but took the loss.  Weise pitched the final three innings.
 
Superior 3, Becker 2
In the third place game, the Bulldogs lost to Superior, WI.  
 
Superior had just suffered their first loss of the season to STMA in the semifinals.  
 
Weise got Becker on the board in the first inning with a solo home run.  Superior was able to plate three runs in the third with four consecutive singles.  
 
In the sixth, Weise added another solo home run, but that was all the offense the home team could muster as Superior made a few great defensive plays to keep runners off the bases.  
Weise's two home runs give her a school record eight dingers on the season.
 
Corey took the loss, pitching the first three innings and Weise threw the final three.
 
Becker 4, Monticello 3
Tuesday, Becker hosted Monticello in an important section game.
 
The Magic got on the board first with a run in the fourth, but Becker answered  in the bottom of the inning when Wiehle tripled and scored on a wild pitch to knot the score at one.  
Monticello came right back in the fifth and added two more runs on two hits, a walk and a Bulldog error.  
 
Things were looking bleak for the Bulldogs with the score 3-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, but Megan Hoppe got things started with a walk and Schwartz, Lamott and Weise hit three consecutive singles to give the Bulldogs a 4-3 walk-off win.  
 
Wiehle was 3-for-3 with a double and triple.  Lamott added two hits.  
 
Corey threw the first five innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits.  Weise came on in relief and pitched the final two innings.
 
Becker 8, Albany 2
The Bulldogs closed  out the week  Thursday with Parent's Night and Cancer Awareness Night as they took on Albany in a battle of two state-ranked teams.
 
The Huskies hit a solo home run in the top of the first to jump in the lead, but that didn't last long as Becker tallied two runs in the bottom of the inning as  Schwartz walked to lead off  and Lamott and Weise followed with singles.  
 
Becker added two more runs in the third when Lamott singled and Weise followed with a double to put runners at second and third.  Corey laid down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to score Lamott.  On the play, Corey advanced a base and Weise scored on the throw to second.  
 
That made the score 4-1, where it stayed until the fifth when the Huskies added an unearned run to pull within two.  
 
The Bulldogs put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth with two outs on the board.  Weise, Lamott, Corey and Wiehle all had multiple hits on the day.  
 
Weise picked up the win, going all seven innings and allowing two runs on five hits.  She walked three and struck out eight.
 
Up Next
The girls are headed toward the end of the regular season with just two games remaining.  Becker hosts #3-ranked Hermantown Saturday morning at 10:30  a.m. before finishing up the regular season with a game at Foley Tuesday.  
 
Becker currently stands with a recored of 12-6 and are looking to wrap up the #2 seed in the section.  Rocori is likely to get the #1 seed.
