The Becker girls softball team went 2-1 this past week.
Becker vs. Annandale
Last Tuesday, the girls played against the Annandale Cardinals and secured a seventh inning, 5-4 comeback win.
In the second inning, the Bulldogs took the lead when Jackie Neumann scored off of a Kaylyn Patnode double.
In the third, Ady Petty singled, stole second, and scored on an Allie Duncombe hit, increasing the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.
The Cardinals responded with four runs in the third and fourth inning making it 4-2.
The Bulldogs rebounded in the seventh when they used three singles and two Cardinal errors to plate three runs and capture the win. Jaimee Cook pitched the last three innings, while Bella Hunter pitched the first four. Petty scored two runs and had two hits.
Becker Vs. Monticello
Last Thursday, Becker Bulldogs traveled to Monticello to take on the Magic and the game started well for Becker but didn’t pan out during the rest of the game.
In the bottom of the first, the Magic hit a home run resulting in a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs cut lead in half during the third inning, after Petty scored on a Bella Hunter double. In the bottom of the fourth, Monticello tallied eight runs off numerous Bulldog errors and won the game, 10-3. Jaimee Cook, Norah Fitzpatrick, Lauren Ergen, and Bella Hunter each hit multiple times during the game.
Becker Vs. Zimmerman
Last Friday, the Bulldogs went to Zimmerman with the hopes of taking home the victory and they started out strong in the top of the first, after plating three runs. Kaylyn Patnode and Allie Duncombe each had RBI base hits in the inning.
In the second, Cook and Maddie Gardner each singled and then scored off of a Fitzpatrick single. Another run was scored by Cook in the top of the third, making the score 6-0 in favor of the Bulldogs.
The Thunder would cut the lead in half after scoring three runs in the bottom of the third. Another run was added to the Thunders score after they scored in the fifth.
However, four Bulldog runners made it home in the top of the seventh, including two on Neumann’s first career home run. Cook shut down the Thunder the rest of the way and Becker departed with a 10-4 win.
Bella Hunter was the winning pitcher, pitching 4-⅓ innings, while Cook pitched 2-⅔. Ergen, Cook, and Neumann each had two hits on the day.
Versus Cambridge
May 3, the Bulldogs lost to C-I, 3-2.
Invitational
May 4, the Bulldogs hosted the 30th Annual Becker Invitational where eight teams all across the state would come and compete.
The Bulldogs started the quarterfinals off by beating the Hibbing Bluejackets, 1-0.
In the semifinals, the Bulldogs lost to the Coon Rapid Cardinals, 5-4.
The Bulldogs would move on to play the Cloquet Lumberjacks for third place.
Versus Princeton
May 6, the Bulldogs took on the Princeton Tigers and won, 3-2.
Coming Up
The Bulldogs have three more games left before they move on to the sections. After playing St. Francis, Princeton, and Mounds View, the Bulldogs will begin section playoffs against a still-to-be -determined opponent.
