Lady Bulldogs Go 1 1

The Becker Bulldog girls volleyball team started the 2019 season with a win and a loss in two home matches,

Becker 3, Big Lake 0

Tuesday, the Bulldogs opened the season with a matchup against the Hornets of Big Lake. They won the first two sets handily, then beat the Hornets by two in the third.

It was evident the Bulldogs had a height advantage over the smaller Hornets and Becker’s skyscrapers made Big Lake pay.

Jenna Olson (5’11”), Kady Lindbom (5’11”), Jillian Olson (5’11”) and freshman Evelyn Kreft (6’) caused all kinds of problems for the Hornets as they struggled to spike balls past the protracted arms of the Bulldog netters.

Becker won the first set by a score of 25-11, jumping out to a big lead and never taking their foot off the pedal. Every apparent momentum shift by the Hornets was thwarted by the Bulldogs and their height and speed.

The second set was almost a complete copy of the first, with Becker dominating the net and running up a big lead and blowing the Hornets out of the water by a score of 25-16.

To Big Lake’s credit,  Alisha Brust’s team didn’t just go through the motions in the third and after surrendering another lead to the Bulldogs early, the Hornets charged back and tied the set at 23-23 with the Hornet faithful screaming and hooting.

However, Becker won the next point on a fault by Big Lake and on the subsequent serve, put the game and the match away by a score of 25-23.

Centennial 3, Becker 0

Thursday, Becker hosted Centennial and lost in three straight sets.

The first set was a close one with Centennial eventually capturing the win by a score of 26-24. The Bulldogs couldn’t recover and fell by 10 to the Cougars, 25-15.

In the final set, it was much of the same as the Cougars outplayed the Bulldogs and won the set by a score of 25-13.
