The Becker girls lacrosse team had a tough week, losing a high-scoring affair at home Friday against Monticello, then falling to the Tigers of Delano Tuesday night on the road.
Monticello 15, Becker 10
Becker played a close game against Monticello last Friday but couldn’t keep pace with the high-scoring Magic.
Allison Zimmer started the night’s scoring for Becker with a solid shot on goal after her teammates were able to draw Monticello’s defense out, giving her a lane to the goal.
The Magic came back and in the course of six minutes, tallied three goals.
At the 14:11 mark, Becker’s Rachel Eisenreich struck for a goal with her signature shovel shot.
Monticello bounced back with another goal three minutes later, then Sydney Stommes slipped one by the Magic goaltender, which started a little three-goal scoring streak for our Bulldogs.
With 8:06 left in the first half, Becker was up 5 - 4. Unfortunately, Monticello utilized the time on the clock to score four unanswered goals to go up by three at the half, 8-5.
The second half began the same way the first ended with Monticello scoring another two goals to go up 10-5.
Becker’s Bria Amundson scored on a free possession shot at 18:08 to pull a little closer.
For the rest of the way, Becker was able to stay close and answer just about every goal by the Magic, but their hearts were broken with just 30 seconds left in the match and down by three. stay within 3 goals of Monticello scored twice in those waning moments and walked away with the five-goal win.
“We had a great turn out of our fans tonight”,” said Head Coach Hugh Hovde. “Monticello played a good zone defense and we made too many little mistakes that kept us from the win.”
Scoring for Becker were Rachel Eisenreich with four goals, Allison Zimmer with two, Bria Amundson with two and Macy Eigen and Sydney Stommes with one goal a piece.
Delano 9, Becker 5
After a thunderstorm delay Tuesday in Delano, the Bulldogs and Tigers battled it out with Delano putting a cloud over Becker’s hope for a win.
The game started with the Bulldogs reigning in the Delano end for the first several minutes, but the scoreboard remained blank.
“It seemed like we kept the ball in Delano’s end for most of the first seven minutes,” said Hovde. “But we came away empty handed.”
The Tigers overcame the offensive onslaught and scored the first three goals of the contest.
Becker’s Daisy Kent had a hot stick, scoring Beckers first two goals with nice shot placements.
As the half wound down, Delano scored another goal to make the halftime score of 4-2.
In the second half, the Tigers scored off the opening draw to go up by three. The Dawgs came right back on the next draw with a goal from Eisenreich on a free possession shot.
Once again, Becker dominated play in Delano’s end, but the Tiger goalie looked like Martin Brodeur between the pipes, swatting away almost every Becker attempt.
Delano withstood the pressure and eventually went up 8-3 with time running out.
The Becker girls played hard and finally penetrated the net with two more goals before Delano sealed the deal with a goal with three seconds left.
“I’m proud of the team, they played hard,” said Hovde.
Becker (4-5) outshot the Tigers, 26 to 16.
Scoring for Becker were Kent with three goals and Eisenreich with two.
