SENIOR KATIE PURSLEY had three goals Wednesday but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Bulldogs lost their playoff game to Anoka by a score of 16-9.

Lacrosse Team’s Season Ends In Anoka

In Section 8 first round play against the Anoka Tornadoes Wednesday, the Becker Bulldogs girls lacrosse team lost by five to end their season.

Anoka 16, Becker 9

The Bulldogs received the fifth seed in the section and took on the fourth-seeded Tornadoes on a warm evening in Anoka.

Becker jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead 10 minutes into the game on goals by Katie Pursley and Olivia Hultgren. But the Tornadoes stormed back with four straight goals in the next eight minutes to take the lead.

The two teams then traded goals before the half to go into the break with Anoka leading 6-4.

The Tornadoes scored just 1:09 into the second half to take a 7-4 lead but MacKenzie Opgenorth tallied the next two goals to bring the Bulldogs within a goal.

Becker put the heat on and recorded four shots on Anoka’s sophomore goalie Brenah Sarell, but she was able to save every shot to keep Anoka ahead by one.

Those saves seemed to energize Anoka and they proceeded to score the next four goals in just over four minutes to take a commanding 11-6 lead. The home team did not look back and eventually scored five more times to Becker’s three to take the contest.

Seniors Pursley and Opgenorth led the Bulldogs with three goals apiece.  Hultgren, Kinsley Hurt and Brookelyn Beutz each tallied a goal for the Lady Dawgs.

Anoka was led by Bridget Poidinger with five goals and Hailey Miller with four.

The Bulldogs finished their season with a 6-8 overall record.
