Lacrosse Team Slumping As Regular Season Ends

The Becker Bulldog girls lacrosse team closed out their regular season with four straight losses to quality teams.

St. Cloud 16, Becker 9

On a beautiful night weather-wise at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, the Huskies jumped out ahead of the Bulldogs right away and by halftime they held an 11-2 advantage Thursday.

The Bulldogs made a spirited second half comeback but eventually ran out of time, losing by seven.

Katie Pursley led the Bulldogs with four goals and an assist.  Freshman Kinsley Hurt contributed two goals, the first goals of her varsity career.  Sydney Benda, Catie Eisenrich and MacKenzie Opgenorth also tallied goals for the visiting Bulldogs with Brookelyn Beutz adding an assist.

Kelsi Halverson had 12 saves in goal for the Bulldogs.

St. Cloud was led by Jill Kedrowski with six goals and Emily Dorn with four.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the regular season with a 6-7 record.  Seeding for the Section 8 playoffs will be determined this weekend with Becker most likely playing either next Tuesday or Wednesday night with the location to be determined.

Mound Westonka 8, Becker 2

The Bulldogs could not solve Mound Westonka White Hawk’s senior goalie Nicolette Smerillo as she stymied them  with 15 saves enroute to an easy six-goal win Tuesday on the road.

The White Hawks led 4-2 at halftime and proceeded to shut out the Bulldogs in the second half to win 8-2.

Pursley and Eisenrich scored the only goals for Becker.

The White Hawks were led by Reilly McMillen with two goals.  Six others scored a single goal to lead their balanced attack.

Orono 22, Becker 6

The Bulldogs were missing four of their starters last Saturday for this rescheduled home game against Orono.  The game had been postponed due to rain and was the last home game of the year.

The Spartans took control of the game at the outset and dominated the match from the get-go. By halftime, they led the match 10-2.

Things didn’t get much better for the Bulldogs in the second half as the Spartans tallied 12 more goals to Becker’s four  making the final score 22-6.

Benda led the Bulldogs with two goals.  Olivia Hultgren, McKenzie Bursch, Sara Garding and Chloe Madsen each tallied a goal.

The Spartans were led by Catherine Fraser with seven goals and four assists and Kiera Nelson who scored six goals.

Forest Lake 13, Becker 12

Becker and Forest Lake played a spirited game last Friday that ended with a heartbreaking, sudden death loss for the host Bulldogs.

The first half was fierce and ended with Forest Lake leading 6-5.

The Bulldogs clamped down on defense in the second stanza — giving up five goals while scoring six and the game eventually went into overtime tied at 11.  After two, three-minute extra periods, the score was still tied after each team scored to make it 12-12.

Three minutes were then added to the clock and sudden-death levied to the final period.  Forest Lake’s  Radien Lenz scored her seventh goal with just over a minute left in the OT.

Sydney Benda led the Bulldogs with five goals.  Katie Pursley added four goals and Allison Zimmer, Reilly Cencer and Catie Eisenrich each tallied a goal.
Carli Lund added four goals for the Rangers.
