Join The Bulldogs And “Tackle Cancer” Versus Milaca, Oct. 7

Friday, Oct. 7, the Becker football team will be hosting Milaca and the game will feature the annual “Tackle Cancer” fund endorsed by the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund.

This is Becker’s fifth year of participation and the event is held in large part due to the efforts of the Becker Student Council and Kristi Fobbe.

Cancer is a disease that has impacted all communities and for the past 31 years, Kare-11’s Randy Shaver has been instrumental in bringing coverage of Prep football to the masses.  Shaver has been with  KARE-11 Television (NBC Affiliate) in Minneapolis/St. Paul since 1994.

Back in 1995, Shaver started the Celebrity Golf Classic and raised $27,000 to aid research towards fighting cancer. The fight became intensely personal when Shaver himself became a patient shortly after his 1998 tournament. Diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkin’s Disease, Randy’s treatment and subsequent remission have understandably made him even more passionate than ever about finding a cure.

Since 1995, the charitable organization has raised more than $5 million.

At Friday’s game against Milaca, the football team will be selling pink “Tackle Cancer” t-shirts for nominal donations. All proceeds from the sale and donations will go directly to cancer research.
