The Becker Bandits baseball team fell to the St. Joseph Joes by a score of 11-1 in 8 innings. last Saturday on the road.
Jon Crowley started the game on the mound for Becker and went 6-2/3 innings, giving up nine runs and nine hits, while striking out one. Austin Rasmussen relieved Crowley and pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up two runs, on four hits, while walking four.
The Bandits finished the game with the one run on six hits while committing three errors.
The St. Joseph Joes scored 11 runs on 13 hits.
Becker’s lone run came in the top of the third when Rasmussen led off with a infield single. He then went to second on a wild pitch and on to third on a groundout by Connor Rolf Matt Yoerg whacked a single up the middle to get the Bandits on the board. That was the only run the Bandits could push across.
“Hitting-wise, we had our chances and opportunities to take advantage of runners in scoring position all game long but could not come through,” said Manager Cole Hanson.
The game was tied going into the seventh at 1-1, until the Joes exploded for nine runs. The Bandits gave the Joes extra outs with opportunities to get out of the jam but couldn't.
“This game was coasting at 1-1 till the seventh,” said Hanson. “We gave them two runs that were earned and we could have been down 3-1 at best, but we couldn't get the routine play for the third out in that inning and then — after an error — they had six consecutive hits to basically put the score out of reach for good.”
Kreeden Blomquist was Becker’s best hitter, going 2-for-3 while Rasmussen went 2-for-4.
Matt Yoerg was 1-for-3 with the sole RBI and walked once. Matt Conzemius was also 1-for-3.
“I didn't really have a lot to say after this one,’ said Hanson. “It's the same little things that are costing us games. We can't have that one bad inning if you want to win in this league.”
