The Big Lake volleyball team went 4-0 last Saturday on their way to winning the Dassel-Cokato Tournament.
The team was dominant, losing just one set all day. In pool play the Hornets defeated Eden Valley-Watkins, Rockford, and White Bear Lake, then they defeated Mankato East in the championship.
Madison Reed led the team with 23 kills and 31 digs throughout all games on Saturday. She also had five aces, four assists, and a block. Marissa Reed wasn’t far behind with 21 kills and 21 digs along with five aces, three blocks, and three assists. Ashley Fitzgibbons had 42 set assists to lead the team, and Kam Tschritter has 31 of her own. Both setters had 13 digs as well. Kaylee Strong had 14 digs, Jaz Dimpka added 12 kills, and Izzy Moudry had 12 kills. Amara Obia had 11 kills, nine digs, five blocks, and two assists. Taylor Kipka had nine kills, eight digs, and five aces.
Last Thursday the team lost 1-3 to Monticello. The team got down two sets to none and staved off elimination by taking the third set 25-22. But the Magic shut down any hope of a comeback with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.
This week features a trip to Orono on Thursday before returning home next Tuesday for a home game against Chisago Lakes.
