The Big Lake softball team finished their regular season schedule by beating Buffalo and Rockford in a pair of non-conference matchups.
Last Wednesday the team travelled to Buffalo where they defeated the Bison 9-2 behind a great day at the plate from Ava Prosser. The second baseman went 3-4 at the plate with a double, two RBI, and four runs scored. Her double in the first inning helped the Hornets get an early lead by scoring three runs in the top of the first. Kamrynn Tschritter and Grace Knodle each drove in two runs as well.
Sydnie Loftus picked up the win in the circle. She went six innings while allowing just three hits and striking out nine. Buffalo hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, and after that Loftus and reliever Macy Bowne shut them out.
On Friday the Hornets defeated Rockford 4-2 in the regular season finale. Big Lake used three pitchers on the day, all of them being effective. Loftus got the start going four innings and allowing one unearned run. She then turned the circle over to Tessa Fjone who went two innings while allowing just one hit. And finally, Bowne came in to close things out in the top of the seventh.
At the plate Fjone and Loftus were just as impactful as they were on the mound. Both went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
