Hornets take down Thunder

On Tuesday the Big Lake girls’ tennis team traveled to Zimmerman and came home with their first victory of the season. The Hornets won by a margin of 6-1 to win in convincing fashion. 

On Saturday the team travelled north to Brainerd for the Warrior’s annual Moose Tournament. The team competed against the host, Brainerd, and six other schools including Coon Rapids, East Grand Forks, Glencoe-Silver Lake, New Prague, Pequot Lakes, and Roseau. 

Finishes for the Hornets were Audrey Guldseth-8th in #1 singles, Emily Shoop-6th in #2 singles, Katlyn Baron-8th in #3 singles, Reese Heinen-8th in #4 singles, Lexi Kapsner/Tatum White-8th in #1 doubles, Allie Cross/Kaelyn Dietz-7th in #2 singles, and Rose Maxson/Lindsay Shoop-6th in #3 doubles. 

Last Thursday the team fell to Princeton 1-6 in a Mississippi 8 Conference matchup. The sole victory for the Hornets came from Kaelyn Dietz and Lindsay Shoop from the 3rd doubles slot. 

Another busy week is in store for the team, with three competitions. On Thursday the team will host St. Francis for a conference match, then on Saturday they will host a Quad in Big Lake, and then next Tuesday the Hornets will travel to Monticello.
