The Big Lake baseball team won its fourth game of the season last week behind the strong pitching of Owen Wilczek.
The Hornets beat Zimmerman, 7-0, with Wilczek allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out 14 in a complete game victory.
Big Lake started out quickly with two runs in the first inning and three more in the second.
They added another in the third and their final run in the fifth. That was more than enough for Wilczek, who had strikeouts in every inning and kept the Thunder from putting any offense together.
Although the Hornets had only six total hits, Zimmerman pitchers hit four batters and walked six more. The Thunder also committed three errors that led to three unearned runs.
Isaiah Terlinden had a good day at the plate with two hits, including a solo homer. He also scored twice. Brendan Goedker had a single, a walk and scored a run. Blayne Varner singled, walked, was hit by a pitch, stole a base, drove in a run and scored one. Wilczek singled, walked and drove in a run. Jaxyn Tschritter walked twice and scored a run.
A week earlier the Hornets faced Zimmerman and put the game away early.
Big Lake hitters took control right from the start, scoring two runs in the first, five in the second and four more in the third for an 11-0 lead.
Jackson Laroche started on the mound and blanked the Thunder over the first three innings before allowing an unearned run in the fourth.
Terlinden came in to pitch the fifth and allowed a run on three hits. But the Hornets ended the game with a run in the home fifth to win by the 10-run rule.
Laroche got the win. He allowed one unearned run, just one hit and walked two. He struck out eight.
At the plate, Austin Schleif had three hits and scored three runs. Goedker walked, scored a run and drove in two. Cooper Cusick doubled, walked, scored a run and drove in two. Wilczek doubled and drove in three runs. Terlinden singled twice and scored two runs. Laroche had two hits, an RBI and scored two runs. Trenton Throolin had a single and an RBI. Tschritter walked and drove in a run.
Big Lake also beat Aitkin, 22-10 Last Friday. There were no details made available from that game.
The Hornets are 5-7 on the season. They had three games scheduled the past week, results next week. They host Watertown-Mayer 4:30 p.m Monday and Chisago Lakes 7 p.m. Tuesday.
