Big Lake track and field athletes had some good performances and lots of personal bests at the Monticello Final Countdown meet last week. It was the last varsity meet of the season before the Mississippi 8 Conference Championships that took place May 22.
For the girls, Alivia Voss had a personal best of 4’11” in the high jump to take third.
Alayna Boe cleared 8’6” to place third in the pole vault.
Naomi Huizenga went a personal best of 32’4” in the triple jump to take fourth.
Campbell Slattery set a personal record of 5:41.05 to take fifth in the 1600 meters and set another personal best of 2:34.13 to take eighth in the 800 meters.
Eleonora Piva had personal best time of 28.37 in the 200 meters to take ninth. She was fifth in the long jump at 14’8.”
Ninth-grader Shiloh Elliott finished 11th in the 100 meters in 13.91 seconds.
Tayla Glassman had season’s best times in the 100 meter (35.32) and 200 meter (1:09.32) wheelchair races. She also had a personal best of 20’6.5” in the shot put and threw the discus 42’10.”
Maneena Thomas had a personal best of 1:11.13 in the 400 meters.
Britta White ran 18.28 to finish 10th in the 100 meter hurdles.
Greta Schwirtz had the team’s longest throw in the shot put at 25’7.”
For the boys, Montell Hester took second in the 100 meters in 11.53 seconds.
Caleb Kennedy ran 23.66 in the 200 meters to take fifth.
Preciux Sanguma set a personal best of 56.21 seconds in the 400 meters, as did Josh Dupre at 56.47.
Trent Erickson ran a personal best of 2:10.0 in the 800 meters. Gavin Vold ran 2:10.7, also a personal best. They finished in seventh and eighth respectively.
Gavin Flavin ran a personal best 4:49 in the 1600 to take fifth. Trent Erickson (4:50.36) and David Guyse (4:50.47) also had personal bests.
Wuoson Nehwah finished fifth in the 110 hurdles in 17.39. Preston Wesseh was seventh in 17.45, a personal best. Wesseh also set a personal best in the long jump at 19’6.5” to finish fifth.
Tanner Muenkel had Big Lake’s longest throw in the shot put at 34’8,” his personal best.
Dylan Kunz went 5’9” in the high jump to take sixth, a personal best. He took sixth in the triple jump at 35’9.5”.
Gavin Vold and Kevin Winkelman both cleared nine feet in the pole vault and tied for ninth place.
The 4x100 relay team of Nehwah, Josh Kennedy, Caleb Kennedy and Hester finished third in 44.94, just missing the school record of 44.64 set last year.
The Hornets competed in the Mississippi 8 Conference Meet Wednesday, results next week.
