Hornets prepping for upcoming seasons

The Big Lake Hornet winter sports season is underway with five teams competing as well as the unified, Becker/Big Lake hockey squad.

The Big Lake wrestling team is made up of coaches Ryan Prom, Andrew Sandford, Matt Nelson and Justin Nelson.

The team commences their 2022-23 season with an invitational at home against multiple schools 12/2. On 12/6 and 12/8, they host two triangulars against multiple schools and on 12/10, they travel to Maple Grove to participate in their invitational. On 12/15, they compete against C-I on the road and the next two days (12/16 and 12/17), they travel to Pequot Lakes for another mulitiple school tournament.

On 12/21, they head to Chanhassen to particiapte in a quad meet, then to the Fargo Dome on Dec. 29-30 to close out the month.

On Jan. 5,  the boys host St. Francis for a dual, then take on Monticello 1/13 at MHS. On 1/19, they head to Chisago Lakes for another multiple school invite, then come home 1/26 for a dual against Becker. The last meet in January is 1/31 at Hutchinson.

In February, the Hornets are on the road for two meets, the first against Princeton on Feb. 2 and the second on Feb. 9 against Andover. Sections start Feb. 16 and run through the 25th.

The Hornet boys basketball team is coached by Tom Critchley, Sam Dokkebakken, Sheridan Johnson and Nicholas.

The boys kicked off their 2022-23 season on 11/26 with a road game against Delano. On Dec. 2-3, they will travel to Red Wing for a multiple school tournament. On Dec. 6, they take on the Centaurs of Brooklyn Center HS on the road. On Dec. 15, they host Zimmerman and on Dec. 17 they host Bemidji.

On Dec. 20, the boys hit the road for Hutchinson, then two days later, host Annadale in Big Lake. On Dec. 29-30, the Hornets play in a multiple school invitational at Delano to close out the year.

The first game in 2023, the Hornets travel to Becker on 1/6 then come home and host princeton 1/10. On Dec. 12, they go to North Branch, then to C-I on Jan. 16. The Boys enjoy a three-game home spell when they host Chisago Lakes on Jan. 19, St. Francis on Jan. 24 and Becker on Jan. 27. The last game in January is on the road at Princeton, 1/31.

On Feb. 3, the Hornets play on the road at Monticello, then come home to take on Breck on Feb. 9. Five days later, they host C-I, then on Feb. 16 they head to Chisago Lakes. On Feb. 21, they travel to St. Franics and then to Spectrum HS on 2/24. They close out February with a home game against Monticello on Feb. 28.

March has one game before sections in which the Hornets host Sauk Rapids-Rice on 3/2.

The Hornet girls basketball team is coached by Reyan Robinson and Rebecca Hanna.

The girls kicked off their season on Nov. 19 againts Milaca on the road. On Dec. 1, they host Maple Lake, then hit the road for Annandale on 12/6. They return home for a three-game home stretch against Hutchinson (12/9), St. Cloud (12/13) and Zimmerman (12/15).

On Dec. 16, the girls head to New Prague then return home to take on Spectrum on Dec. 20. Nine days later, they head to St. Cloud for a two-day tournament against multiple shools. On Jan. 6, the Hornets head to becker to take on the Bulldogs, then to Princeton on the 10th. Two days later, they host North Branch, then a week later they host Chisago Lakes. On Jan. 20, they play at Sauk Rapids-Rice then head to St. Francis on Jan. 24. Three days later, the Hornets host Becker and on Jan. 31 they host Princeton.

In February, the Hornets host Monticello (2/3), then go to North Branch on Feb. 7 before coming home to take on C-I on Feb. 9. They end up playing on the road just five days later against that same C-I team, then head to Chisago Lakes on Feb. 16. The next day, the Hornets take on Delano on the road, then travel to Willmar on Feb. 20.  The next day, Feb. 21, the girls host St. Francis, then travel to Monticello on Feb. 23 to conclude the regular season schedule.

The Hornet girls gymnastics team is coached by Landon Goldsmith, Kristopher Kitzman, Abby Schreifels and Theresa Johnson.

The girls will commence their 2022-23 season with a meet at Brainerd on Dec. 17 where multiple schools will participate.

On Jan. 7, they host a multiple-school invitational that includes Becker, Monticello and St. Cloud, amongst others. On Jan. 24, they host Little Falls and on Jan. 28 they travel to Worthington.

In February, the girls are invited to a multiple-school invite at St. Francis on 2/17.

The Hornet girls dance team is coached by Kayla Kleinsteuber, Emily Merkley and Charlie Sundberg.

The team is managed by  Reilly Zeig and Greta Schwirtz.

The Hornet girls dance team started out their season on Nov. 19 at Roger HS.

On Dec. 3, they head to Lakeville for an invite, then on Dec. 9 they go to St. Francis for a conference meet. The next day, they travel to Albany for a multiple school invite and a week later they compete at Stewartville. On Dec. 20, they have another conference meet at Chisago Lakes to close out the month.

On Jan. 7, the girls head to Bloomington Kennedy for a multi-school invite, then to North Branch on Jan. 14. Two days later, they host their first and only invite, then go to Mounds View on Jan. 28. On Feb. 4, sections commence.
