The Big Lake softball team opened up their season last Friday with a dominant 4-0 win over Watertown-Mayer.

The star for the Hornets was Sydnie Loftus who pitched all seven innings while allowing no runs on just three hits while striking out six.

At the plate it was Ava Prosser who got the team going with an RBI single in the top of the first. She also drove in another run during the three run third inning for Big Lake. Katelyn Chaffee and Samantha Norhenberg drove in the other two Hornet runs.

Prosser finished two-for-three with two RBIs, Kamrynn Tschritter was one-for-three with a walk and scored twice, and Tessa Fjone also went two-for-three.

On Tuesday the team started conference play with an 11-1 loss to North Branch. The Hornets were held to just two hits and scored their only run on a Viking error in the bottom of the second.
