Hornets get devoured by Tigers, 68-0

The Hornets dropped to 0-6 with a convincing loss to the Hutchinson Tigers, 68-0 at home last Friday night.

Three scored in the first quarter and two in the second set the tone for the game as Hutchinson whalloped the Hornets on their home turf.

Things didn’t improve after halftime either, as the Tigers scored four touchdowns in the third quarter and two in the fourth to pick up the win.

The game started with  Kyle Schumann pulling in a 16-yard TD from QB Logan Butler for the opening score. Alex Elliott converted the two-point conversion attempt and the Tigers were up early, 8-0.

AJ Ladwig got loose on Hutch’s next possession and sauntered 32 yards to the end zone for a touchdown. This time, the two-pointer failed and the score was 14-0 Hutchinson after two drives. Adding salt to the wound, Hutchinson got a gift safety late in the first to top the first quarter scoring at 16-0.

In the second, Hutchinson scored on an interception, where Ladwig jumped a pass and scored from 33 yards out to go up 24-0. Ladwig made the end zone his new best friend by scoring yet again — this time from 30 yards out — to make the score 32-0 at the half.

The third quarter was a landslide for the Hornets as Hutch scored three times. The first came on a Ladwig, three yard run to go up 38-0. Butler then hit Andrew Lipke from 19 yards out to go up 44-0. It continued to snowball as Hutchinson scored another TD. Butler to Nathan Thode from nine yards out, to go up 50-0. One more TD in the third was executed by Davontey Parker  who ran it in from 26 yards out to go up 56-0.

Unfortunately for the Hornets, there was still another quarter to face and Hutchinson didn’t let up.

Parker scored his second TD in a row when he rambled in from seven yards out to make the score 62-0. Mercifully, Eli Croatt capped the night off with a one yard TD run to make the final, 68-0.

Big Lake ran 46 plays compared to 59 for the Tigers. Hutchinson had 16 first downs compared to just four for Big Lake. The Hornets also committed five turnovers while Hutch turned it over just once.
