The Big Lake baseball team won one and lost three in their last four games.
Monday, the Hornets had a lead early but lost to Monticello, 6-2.
The Magic reached Big Lake starter Jeffery Wanhala for a run without a hit in the top of the first inning.
But the Hornets came back to take the lead in the home first when Brendan Goedker and Austin Schleif both reached base and later scored.
That was the only lead for Big Lake, as Monticello reached Big Lake reliever Owen Wilczek for four runs on four hits in the fifth. They added another run later in the inning off reliever Nehemiah Rousu to close out the scoring
Wilczek took the loss. He also had one of Big Lake’s two hits in the game. Jaxyn Tschritter also had a hit.
Last Thursday, Big Lake scored a run in the first inning but never led after that in an 11-6 loss to Becker.
Wilczek started on the mound and pitched a scoreless first before allowing two runs in the second inning. The Bulldogs added four more off Wilczek in the fourth for a 6-1 lead.
The Hornets got two runs back in the fifth to close the gap before Becker matched that in the sixth off reliever Jackson Laroche to go ahead, 8-3.
Big Lake put together a rally in the sixth, scoring three runs to get closer at 8-6. But the Bulldogs got three of their own in the top of the seventh for an 11-6 lead, and that was all the scoring in the game.
Wilczek took the loss. He allowed six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out eight.
Laroche allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and a walk in two innings.
At the plate, Schleif had two hits and drove in three runs. Goedker had two hits and drove in a run. Cooper Cusick singled and scored a run. Wilczek singled, walked and drove in a run. Laroche scored a run and drove in one.
Last Tuesday, the Hornets scored first for a 1-0 lead in the second, but lost 10-2 to Annandale.
Isaiah Terlinden started for Big Lake and kept Annandale off the scoreboard for the first two innings. But the Cardinals reached him for four runs in the third and two more in the fourth.
Wanhala followed on the mound and allowed two runs in the fifth and two more in the seventh, all unearned.
At the plate, Wilczek had two hits, including a solo homer. Tschritter and Goedker also had two hits.
The Hornets got their second win of the season last Monday, beating Maple Lake, 4-2.
The Irish opened with a run in the top of the first off Big Lake starter Jackson Laroche.
Big Lake came back with two runs in the third for a 2-1 lead.
Wilczek came in to pitch in the fifth and allowed the Irish to tie the game with a run.
The score stayed at 2-2 until the home sixth when the Hornets got two more runs to take a lead the never relinquished.
Wilczek pitched a scoreless seventh and picked up the win in relief. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out five.
Laroche pitched well, allowing one earned run on four hits in four innings. He walked one and struck out six.
On offense, Cusick singled, walked, stole a base, scored a run and drove in one. Laroche singled, drove in a run and scored one. Trenton Throolin and Connor Stukenholtz each had a hit. Terlinden walked twice and scored a run. Schleif had an RBI.
The Hornets were scheduled to play Zimmerman Tuesday and Cambridge-Isanti Thursday, results next week. They play at Zimmerman Tuesday and Aitkin Friday.
