Hornets Fall To 0-3

The Big Lake Hornets football team dropped to 0-3 with a thrashing from the Willmar Cardinals in last week’s contest.

“Willmar was a good team and we didn’t do a lot of things right,” said Big Lake Head Coach Bob Blanchard. “We only had two drives on offense and neither one of them resulted in points. Defensively, we didn’t tackle well and we didn’t do our jobs.”

The final score was 65-0.

“I take 100% responsibility for the way we played on Friday,” said Blanchard. “I didn’t have our kids ready to play and I told our guys that would not happen again.”

Willmar was up 34-0 before halftime finally arrived. They scored on a 33-yard pass, a 15-yard scamper, a five-yard run, a 26-yard run and a five yard dive. Willmar scored on all five of its first-half drives, with Michael Price finding the end zone three times. He finished the game with 88 yards on seven carries.

In the scond half, it was more of the same as they scored on a 10-yard pass, a three-yard run, a field goal, a two yard run and a 10-yard run.

The Cardinals finished with 326 yards gained on the ground. Willmar improved to 2-1 while Big Lake fell to 0-3. The Hornets take on Delano at home Friday night, Sept. 24.

“We look forward to a new week and a chance to get better and healthy for Delano,” said Blanchard.
