It came down to the wire, but the Big Lake Hornet gymnastics team persevered Friday night at the State Tournament, beating out Detroit Lakes by a mere point and a half and capturing the state title.
The Hornets improved on their section championship score by two full points, scoring 37.725 on the floor, 37.075 on the vault, 37.05 on the beam and 35.8 on the bars for a team total of 147.65
The Lakers finished with a score of 146.15.
Big Lake’s Britney Krumrei captured second place in the all-around Saturday with a score of 38.150. Reagan Kelley of Watertown-Mayer/Mound Westonka took first place with a score of 38.500. Krumrei finished second on vault (9.650), third on bars (9.475), third on beam (9.425) and first on floor (9.600).
