Hornet wrestlers win 2 of 3 at quad meet

The Big Lake Wresting team had another outstanding performance last Thursday, winning two of three matches in a quad meet at Chanhassen.

The Hornets easily dispatched Chaska and Centennial. They lost a close decision, 38-36 to Anoka, a team ranked fifth in AAA with five top-ten ranked wrestlers.

  In the Anoka duel, Big Lake’s Landon Bagne lost at 106 pounds in the opening match by tech fall.

  But the Hornets came back to take the next four matches. At 113, Ivan Lapointe pinned Anoka’s Cayden Ban at 4:43.

Cash Sixberry pinned Nate Nosko at 1:48 at 120 pounds.

At 126, Christian Noble pinned Garrett Wittek in 17 seconds.

Nolan Reiter pinned Austin West at 3:06 at 132 pounds.

Anoka came back at 138, with third-ranked Elijah Paulson beating  Zack Smith of Big Lake by tech fall,  22-5.

At 145, fourth-ranked Carter Ban of Anoka pinned Cooper Cusick at 1:17.

Third-ranked  Brendan Howes pinned Dillon Browen at 1:31 at 145 pounds.

At 160, Big Lake’s Tyler Dehmer pinned Zaden Fitzsimmonds at 1:42 before Anoka’s Jacob Whitaker, ranked sixth, beat Johnathon Murphy, 24-14 at 170.

Anoka won again at 180, with seventh-ranked Jaden Burandt taking a close decision over Brett Bordwell, 10-8.

At 195, Logan Raj-Malikowski of Anoka pinned Peter Duncombe at 4:38.

Anoka’s Sean Jordan followed with a 7-4 decision over Alex Hanrahan at 220.

Big Lake’s Kane Lapointe closed out the competition, pinning Grant Chapman at 0:25 at heavyweight.

Big Lake won 13 of 14 matches each against Chaska and Centennial in the other duels.

The Hornets competed in one of the biggest meets in the country – The Rumble on the Red Tournament in Fargo Wednesday and Thursday. Results will follow next week.
