The Big Lake wrestling team continues to be one of the better teams in the state this season. Over the weekend, the Hornets were impressive with a fourth-place finish at the 28-team Jackhammer Invitational at Pequot Lakes High School.
Big Lake crowned two individual weight-class champions, had one second place finish, two thirds and a fourth place at the meet.
Cash Sixberry remained undefeated (16-0) at 120 lbs. He pinned Asher Hedblom of Rock Ridge Virginia Area at 1:29 in the quarterfinals. He pinned Max Martin of Hutchinson at 2:00, then he pinned Brett DeRoo of Belgrade-Brooten Elrosa (BBE) at 1:43 to take the title.
At 126, Christian Noble (14-0) pinned Bryson Swenson of Andover at 0:20 in the quarterfinals. He won by tech fall, 19-3 over Wyatt Engen of BBE. He pinned Tony Baumann of Howard Lake at 2:59 for the championship.
Nolan Reiter (16-2) beat Devin Hansen of Albany, 7-2 in the quarterfinals at 132 lbs. He beat previously undefeated Colbe Tappe of Staples-Motley, 9-2 before falling to Ryan Jensen of BBE in the finals and finished second.
At 113, Cash Storz (5-1) pinned Caleb Fronning of Fergus Falls at 2:51 in the quarterfinals. He lost to undefeated Christian Jelle of Hibbing, 12-4, then pinned Elias Houle of Andover at 1:42 to take third place.
At 145, Dillon Browen (14-5) pinned Korey Kinyon of Pequot Lakes at 1:14 in the quarterfinals. He lost to Tyson Ullyot of Detroit Lakes, 14-5, then pinned Carter Coauette of Crookston at 4:41 to place third.
Tyler Dehmer (15-5) lost by tiebreaker to Zak McPhee of Proctor/Hermantown in the quarterfinals at 160, and again to McPhee in the finals, 7-5. He finished fourth.

Friday, the Hornets won 12 of 14 matches and beat Cambridge-Isanti, 69-10.

Cash Sixberry (120), Christian Noble (126), Nolan Reiter (132), Jonathan Murphy (170), Brett Bordwell (182) and Rieley Mullen (220) each won their weight class.
Luke Schumacher (138), Dante Visci (152) and Peter Duncombe (195) had second-place finishes.

The Hornets also won a triangular meet against Monticello (68-3) and ROCORI (45-30) on Dec. 9.
They beat Foley, 47-21 and Annandale-Maple Lake 51-20 in another triangular Dec. 7.
The Hornets competed in a quad meet at Chanhassen High School against Chaska, Anoka and Centennial Tuesday, results to follow next week.
