The Big Lake track and field athletes did well at the Big Lake Conference Quad meet against Becker, Princeton and Zimmerman last Tuesday.
The boys won three individual events and two relays, finishing second behind Becker as a team.
Owen Layton won the 1600 meters in 4:22.50, putting him in fifth place on the school’s Top 10 list. Behind Layton were Trent Erickson in third (5:01.42) and Judd Layton in fourth (5:01.58).
Jack Leuer took first in the 800 meters in 1:58.40. That gives him the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Josh Kennedy won the 400 meters in 53.7 seconds. Teammate Alton Ahamed was third in 56.94.
Wuoson Nehwah was second in the 300 hurdles in 45.39. He took third in the 110 hurdles in 17.50.
Abe Nebo went 38’4” in the triple jump for third place. He was seventh in the long jump at 18’5.5”.
Montell Hester took third in the 100 meters in 11.96.
Nehwah was second in the high jump at 5’4”. Jerry Vazquez was third at the same height and Preston Wesseh took fourth at 5’2”.
Vishnu Deonarine had Big Lake’s longest throws in the discus (79’3”) and shot put (29’6.5”).
The 4x100 relay team of Nehwah, Caleb Kennedy, Hester and CJ Mikely won in 45.71.
The 4x200 relay team on Hester, Josh Dupre, Nebo and Caleb Kennedy also won in 1:37.83.
The 4x800 team of Gavin Flavin, David Guyse, Judd Layton and Trent Erickson finished second in 8:57.67.
For the girls, Campbell Slattery finished second in the 800 meters in 2:44.59. She was third in the 1600 meters in 5:56.02, just three seconds behind the winner.
Leah Uphoff took third in the 100 meter hurdles in 18.03 seconds, less than a step ahead of teammate Britta White in fourth in 18.08. Uphoff was fifth in the 100 meters in 14.15 seconds.
Britta White went 15’7.5” to take third in the long jump.
Alivia Voss finished third in the high jump at 4’8”. Alayna Boe was eighth at 4’4”. Boe was second in the pole vault at 7’6”.
Naomi Huizenga took fourth in the triple jump at 30’ 1.5”.
Sydney Roy had Big Lake’s fastest time in the 200 meters in 30.27 seconds. Raina White (30.41) and Erin Kjellberg (30.62) were close behind.
Greta Schwirtz threw the shot put 23’10,” good for fifth. Emily Edlund took sixth with a throw of 23’8.5”.
Britta Vagle took fourth in the discus at 65’2”. Elsie Johnson was seventh at 60’4”.
Big Lake had three second-place finishes in relay events. The 4x100 team of Britta White, Raina White, Sydney Roy and Shiloh Elliott ran 55.59.
The 4x200 team of Leah Uphoff, Shiloh Elliott, Sydney Roy and Eleonora Piva ran 2:00.72.
And the 4x400 quartet of Naomi Huizenga, Kayleigh Pregler, Emily Edlund and Leah Uphoff finished in 4:42.51, beating last year’s season’s best of 4:43.82.
The Hornets competed in a meet at Mahtomedi Thursday, results next week. They compete at Monticello Tuesday and host an invitational against multiple schools Thursday.
