Hornet track athletes do well at M8 meet

There were lots of personal best performances for the Big Lake track and field team at the Mississippi 8 Conference Meet at Zimmerman last week.

Montell Hester set his personal best time in the 100 meters of 11.40 to finish fourth and move him into eighth on the school’s Top 10 list. He set another personal record and also took fourth in the 200 meters in 23.40. That moves him into 10th on the Top 10 list.

Josh Kennedy ran his best time ever in 400 meters and took third in 52.66.

Owen Layton set a new personal best and won the 800 meters in 1:56.34. He’s now third on the Top 10 list.

Trent Erickson ran his fastest time of 2:09.08 in the 800 to place ninth.

Jack Leuer pulled away from the pack in the final lap to win the 1600 meters in 4:21.45.

Eighth-grader Judd Layton set a personal best of 10:24.52 in the 3200 meters and took sixth.

Wuoson Nehwah set a personal best of 16.24 to take seventh in the 110 meter hurdles. He was ninth in the 300 hurdles in 43.49. He also led the team’s high jumpers, placing eighth at 5’8”.

The team of Caleb Kennedy, Owen Layton, Josh Kennedy and Jack Leuer won the 4x400 relay in 3:28.77, just off the school record of 3:28.39.

The 4x200 relay team of Nehwah, Josh Kennedy, Caleb Kennedy and Hester placed second in 1:34.29.

The 4x800 relay team of David Guyse, Judd Layton, Gavin Vold and Trent Erickson placed fourth in a good time of 8:49.12.

Tanner Muenkel had Big Lake’s longest throw in the shot put at 34’9.25,” a personal best.

Preston Wesseh went 19’2.25” to finish 10th in the long jump.

Abe Nebo took ninth in the triple jump at 39’9.5”.

For the girls, Shiloh Elliott set a personal best time of 13.33 in the 100 meters.

Eleonora Piva had Big Lake’s fastest time in the 200 meters at 28.59, just off her personal best. She was eighth in the 400 meters in 56.26.

Erin Kjellberg had her fastest time of the season and took fourth in the 400 meters in 64.65 seconds.

Emily Shoop had a personal best of 2:45.76 in the 800 meters.

Tayla Glassman went 34.31 in the wheelchair 100 meters, her season’s best time. She had a personal best time of 61.06 in the 200 meters. She threw the shot put 20’0.5” and the discus 40’7” and took first place in both events.

Seventh-grader Greta Layton set a personal best and finished fifth in the 1600 meters in 5:32.50, the team’s best time of the season.

Emilee Doperalski set a personal best time of 13:15.35 in the 3200 meters and finished 10th.

Ninth-grader Leah Uphoff  took seventh in the 100 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 17.36. She had another personal best of 50.20 to take sixth in the 300 hurdles.

Greta Schwirtz led the Big Lake shot putters with a throw of 25’11.5”.

Emily Edlund set a personal best of 73’3” in the discus.

Alivia Voss cleared 4’8” in the high jump for eighth place.

Alayna Boe went 8’6” in the pole vault.

Britta White finished 10th in the long jump at 15’2”.

Naomi Huizenga was 10th in the triple jump at 32 feet even.
