Hornet swimmers sting Tigers, Bluejackets

The Big Lake swim/dive team took two meets this week, beating Princeton and Cambridge-Isanti.

The Hornet medley relay team took first, second and third places, and diving took first and second to highlight last Thursday’s event.

The first place medley team consisted of juniors Katlyn Emerson and Brynlee Hillukka as well as sophomore Allie Thompson and Freshman Emilie Vega who finished in a time of 2:12.58.

In second place, junior Jaden Anderson and freshman Rowan Payne — along with sophomores Jenna Nygaard and Jadyn Kluk — finished in a time of 2:15.79.

The third place squad of senior Madison Svien, junior Claire Ireland, sophomore Emma Jacobs and freshman Emma Forpahl, touched off at 2:24.23.

In the 200 freestyle, Jaden Anderson took first with a time of 2:22.90. Makayla Avila finished fifth (2:47.66) and Hannah Clark took sixth (2:47.87).

In the 200 IM, Emilie Vega captured first place at 2:39.15. Emma Jacobs nabbed third place with a time of 3:08.11 and Shelby Goracke took fourth at 3:08.74.

In the 50 freestyle, Allie Thompson took second (27.77), Jenna Nygaard fourth (31.42) and Rowan Payne fifth (31.69).

In the 100 butterfly, Jaden Anderson took second (1:07.47), Jadyn Kluk fourth (1:19.48) and April Gerth fifth (1:39.87).

In the 100 freestyle, Emma Forpahl nailed down fourth place with a time of 1:13.57. Claire Ireland was close behind in fifth with a time of 1:13.76 and Makayla Avila took sixth with a time of 1:15.82.

Vega took home the first place title in the 500 freestyle with a 6:16.53 time. Emma Jacobs finished fifth (7:59.22) and Jadyn Kluk sixth (8:54.78).

In the 200 freestyle relay, Big Lake’s foursome of Thompson, Anderson, Kluk and Vega finished second with a 1:57.88 time. Third place went to another Hornet foursome of Nygaard, Hillukka, Payne and Emerson with a time of 2:07.81. Sixth place went to Gerth, Svien, Maia Wenderski and Goracki with a time of 2:23.72.

In the 100 backstroke, Emerson took first with a time of 1:11.76. Thompson captured second (1:17.46), Hannah Clark took fourth (1:19.41) and Goracke took sixth (1:27.76).

Nygaard reeled in second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:29.54. Hillukka was third (1:29.90), Payne fourth (1:32.36) and Gerth was seventh (1:47.81)

Finally, in the 400 freestyle relay, Big Lake’s foursome of Clark, Ireland, Avila and Greta Schwirtz took fourth with a time of 5:08.74. Goracke, Forpahl, Jacobs and Gerth finished fifth (5:21.80) and Haileigh Christen-Coutley, Reilly Zeig, Wenderski and Brookelyn Christen-Coutley, took sixth with a time of 5:42.78.

In diving, Brittney Krumriei won first with a score of 230.10, while Madison Svien took second with a score of 163.65. Tori Ramert captured fourth with a score of 146.65.

Big Lake 95, C-I 91

“We had an outstanding meet,” said Head Coach DaNae Mitchell. “Cambridge-Isanti was great competition. The girls did a great job racing and we took a lot of points by Big Lake out touching Cambridge at the wall for finishes.”

Mitchell says her team had a lot of season-best times and close-to-lifetime PRs.

“Diving had great scores with Brittney Krumrei taking first and Hannah Strom placing third. I’m really excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us!”

In the 200 medley relay, Emerson, Kluk, Nugaard and Vega finished first with a time of 2:12.38. Ireland, Kirchoff, Hillukka and Thompson finished third in 2:14.27.

In the 200 freestyle, Anderson captured first in 2:22.42 while Nygaard took third in 2:34.10 and Goracke fifth (2:51.88).

In the 200 IM, Vega came in first (2:41.69) while Forpahl ttok fifth (3:02.70.

Swimming in the 50 freestyle, Thompson took first (28.10) and Rowan Payne took fifth (30.53).

In the 100 butterfly, Vega captured second (1:17.51), Kluk third (1:17.65) and Emerson fifth (1:19.86).

Kirchoff (1:02.30) and Thompson (1:03.57) went one, two in the 100 freestyle and Anderson (6:34.19) took first and Forpahl fifth (8:05.33) in the 500 freestyle.

Big Lake’s foursome of Thompson, Anderson, Kirchoff and Vega took firsy in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:52.90.

In the 100 backstroke, Emerson took first (1:11.02) and Clark third (1:16.57).

In the 200 breaststroke, Hillukka took third (1:28.19) and Payne fourth (1:29.81).

Finally, in the 400 freestyle relay, Big Lake’s Kirchoff, Ireland, Anderson and Emerson finsihed second (4;30.05) while the foursome of Kluk, Forpahl, Jacons and Clark took fifth (5:02.59).
