Hornet Sports Capsules...

The Big Lake Hornet winter sports teams kept busy leading up to the holiday break.

Girls Basketball

The Hornet girls basketball team has gotten off to a slow start. losing their first six games of the year. 

Their first game, Dec. 13 was a 65-22 loss at Grand Rapids.The next day, they got drubbed at Pequot Lakes by an 83-28 score. On Dec. 7, the Hornets suffered a loss at home to Annandale by a score of 49-25. Dec. 9, they traveled to Hutchinson and lost 72-41. Last Monday, Dec. 13, the girls hosted Rocori and lost 79-56 and last Friday they lost to Becker on the road by an 83-22 score.

Boys Basketball

The boys have started the 2021-22 season at 1-3 with a 77-56 win at home against Rocori Dec. 14 and losses to Sauk Rapids-Rice (76-70 on Dec. 7), Hutchinson (67-53 on Dec. 9) and a 77-54 loss at home to Mounds View Dec. 18.

Dance

The Hornet girls dance squad finished third at two meets so far this month. On Dec. 4 they participated in the Forest Lake Invitational against Chisago Lakes, Denfield and North Branch and captured third with 278 points. Chisago Lakes took first with 339 points, Denfield second with 325 points and North Branch fourth with 276 points.

On Dec. 11, the girls traveled to the Lakeville Invitational where they again took home third place, this time with 246 points. Holy Family captured first place with 338 points while Belle Plaine took second with 330 points. Richfield had 212 points for fourth place.

Hockey

The Becker/Big Lake Hockey squad fell to 1-6 on the season with a loss to Monticello last Thursday on the road by a score of 11-2.

The team was coming off losses to Northern Lakes (8-0), Chisago Lakes (12-1), Northern Edge (8-2) and Little Falls (9-1). They also lost their opener to Sauk Rapids-Rice, 8-3 before getting their only win against Moose Lake on Dec. 2 by a score of 9-3.
