Hornet softball beats Princeton

The Big Lake softball team went 1-2 last week. Falling to St. Francis and Monticello before beating Princeton Tuesday night 4-3.

The team got home runs from Kamrynn Tschritter and Sydnie Loftus and a strong performance from starting pitcher Macy Bowne. Tschritter started off the scoring for the game with a solo shot in the top of the second inning. The team added one more run in each the third and fourth innings before Loftus blasted another solo shot in the fifth. Four runs would be all that was needed as Bowne allowed only three runs over four and a third innings before turning the ball over to Loftus, who finished the game.

Last Thursday the Hornets dropped a conference matchup against St. Francis 9-3. Alyssa Windorski was the only player with multiple hits, going 2-3 with two doubles.

On Friday the team lost 5-4 to Monticello. Big Lake led 4-1 going into the seventh but allowed four runs on five hits in the top half of the inning. Katelyn Chaffee and Grace Knodle drove in two runs each for the Hornets.

This next will see the team’s regular season come to an end and then start playoffs. On Friday they will host Rockford in the final regular season game and then next Tuesday will be the first section playoff game.
