Hornet soccer girls breaking even so far

The Big Lake girls soccer team has started the 2024 season with a strong effort.

The young Hornets opened with a 2-1 win over Sauk Rapids at home.

Addilynn Hallstrom and Kynlie Fournier both scored in the first half for a 2-0 lead. The Storm got a goal back in the second half, but Big Lake’s defense held on for the win.

The Hornets had a tie in their second game, 3-3 against Hutchinson.

Big Lake scored all its goals in the first half. Adeline Hitter found the net twice and Kynlie Fournier scored her second goal of the season. The Tigers had a goal in the first half, then added two after the break to tie the game.

The Hornets got their second win of the season on the road, beating Albany, 2-1. Emersen Ruhland had a goal and Adeline Hitter scored for the third time this season.

The Hornets then lost, 6-0 to a very good Zimmerman team. The Thunder is 5-1 on the season so far.

Big Lake’s next game was a back-and-forth contest against Cambridge-Isanti. Neither  team was able to score a goal. It ended 0-0 with the Hornets getting a good scoring chance with just 10 second left.

Monday, the Hornets went without a goal in a 3-0 loss to North Branch so their season record stands at 2-2-2.

They played at Monticello Thursday and Delano Saturday, results next week. They play at Spectrum Monday and host Legacy Christian Tuesday at 7 p.m.
