Hornet girls Lax loses home opener

The Big Lake Girl’s Lacrosse team opened their season last Friday with a 14-4 home loss to Duluth.

The Hornets fell behind 1-0 quickly in the first quarter, but the team answered back soon after with an Amelia Gardner goal off an assist from Sloane Griesert to tie the game at one. After that, Duluth pulled away as the Big Lake team struggled to generate much offensively, but Gardner found the back of the net once again off a pass from Griesert to make the score 7-2 at the end of the second quarter.

After the break, the Hornets played a solid defensive third quarter but, again, could not generate any offense needed to stage a comeback. Gardner scored twice more in the fourth quarter, with one of the goals coming off another assist from Griesert. Those two goals would be all the team got as the final was 14-4.

The team has three road games coming up this week with trips to Chisago Lakes on Thursday, Buffalo on Saturday, and Becker next Tuesday. The game from Tuesday has been moved to 5/20 due to weather.
