Hornet boys lose twice

The Big Lake boys basketball team lost a pair of Mississippi 8 Conference games this week and saw their conference record drop to 5-4.

The Hornets’ first loss was last Thursday when they were defeated by Cambridge-Isanti 82-75. An eight-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome for Big Lake. The team had four players score in double figures, led by Trevor Maruska with 17. Owen Layton added 16, Owen Wilczek had 15, and Aidan Johnson finished with 10.

And on Tuesday the team lost to North Branch 84-68.

The Hornets now sit tied for fourth in the conference behind Cambridge-Isanti, Chisago Lakes, and Becker. But the team still has games left to play against each of those three teams. But for now the team will look to get back on track this week against the bottom two teams in the conference, starting with a trip to Princeton on Thursday.
