Hornet boys fall in Section Semis

Last Friday the Big Lake Hornet boys basketball team travelled to St. Michael-Albertville High School to take on the Fridley Tigers in the Section 5AAA semifinals. The Hornets saw their season end with a 73-54 defeat.

It was back and forth for a majority of the game before a few late turnovers and free throws extended the margin and made the score look worse than it was.

Big Lake used a balanced offensive attack and strong defense to keep the score close deep into the game. Four players scored in double figures including Owen Wilczek, Aidan Johnson, Owen Layton, and Isaiah Terlinden.

Versus Saints

In last week’s quarterfinals the Hornets took down conference rival St. Francis 59-51 to advance.

Trevor Maruska powered the Hornet offense with 23 points while the team raced out to a 15-point lead at the half, before holding on the second. Layton scored 15 and Terlinden 11 in the victory.

The team finishes the season with a 14-14 record and a third-place finish in the conference standings.
