ALEX STANZ continues to be Becker’s top golfer as he medaled at Albany Monday, then tied for fourth in Milaca Thursday.

Grc Title Hopes Slicing Away

The Becker Bulldog boys golf team played in two meets this week and their hopes for a Granite Ridge Conference title appears to have “lipped out”.

Albany Invitational
The Bulldogs traveled to Albany for an 18-hole meet Monday that was downgraded to nine because of inclement weather.

The Bulldogs tied for first place with Cathedral but at the time, still trailed the Crusaders by one stroke in conference.

Alex Stanz led the field along with Nate Martin of Cathedral with 37s.  Stanz was followed by Austin Seavert (41) in sixth place, Brandon Abrahamson and Zach Stanz (42s) in 10th and 11th place.

Jackson Fluck and Gavin Murphy each shot 43s for 14th and 15th places.

Milaca Invitational
Cathedral dominated the field by shooting a 309 at Milaca Thursday, pushing their lead over Becker in the GRC to 22 strokes.

A tough road to hoe with just one regular season meet next week.  The frustration was felt by Head Coach Dan Olson, who feels his team of players are as good as many others, but just can’t get them over the hump.

“We have drifted off course and it is time to straighten our ship,” said Olson.  “The kids are better golfers than how they are currently playing.  If I cannot get them to reach their full potential and play to their ability, then it may be time for me to step aside so that someone else can.”

Alex Stanz was once again Becker’s top shooter as he was joined in a tie for fourth place with his brother, Zach at 79s. Seavert shot an 86 for a tie for 11th with teammate Gavin Murphy and Abrahamson took 15th place with an 87.

Fluck struggled and finished tied for 22nd with a 91.
