Girls Tennis Team Goes 3 1

The Becker girls tennis team won three matches and lost just one to improve to 12-3 on the 2019 season. They finished second in the Mississippi 8 Conference to Princeton.

Becker 5, Princeton 2 

Thursday, the Bulldogs hosted Princeton and came away with a 5-2 win. Courtney Nuest and Princeton’s Anna Dahlen battled late into the evening at #1 singles with Dahlen prevailing.

Singles

No. 1 - Anna Dahlen (PT) defeated Courtney Nuest (BB), 3-6, 7-5, 7-5;

No. 2 - Anna Ritchie (BB) defeated Lydia Erickson (PT), 6-1, 6-0;

No. 3 - Maddie Moe (BB) defeated Avery Romann (PT), 6-4, 6-3;

No. 4 - Ayla Brown (BB) defeated Amelia White (PT), 7-5, 6-2;

Doubles

No. 1 - Julia Bengtson and Alayna Lindquist (BB) defeated Halle Farley and Lily Wyluda (PT), 7-5, 6-3;

No. 2 - Jackie Yoerg and Jazlyn Toedter (BB) defeated Sam Haverinen and Cloey Howard (PT), 6-0, 6-2;

No. 3 - Lauren Bjurman and Marial Thompson (PT) defeated Halle Murphy and Arin Hendrickson (BB), 7-6 (61), 6-1.

The Bulldogs swept the Magic in singles and doubles Tuesday on the road.

No. 1 - Nuest (BB) defeated Hannah Mayer (MM), 6-1, 6-2;

No. 2 - Ritchie (BB) defeated. Alayna Jones (MM), 6-4, 6-0;

No. 3 - Moe (BB) defeated Rebecca Rousslang (MM), 6-1, 6-1;

No. 4 - Brown (BB) defeated Samantha Pullen (MM), 6-0, 6-1.

Doubles

No. 1 - Bengtson and Lindquist (BB) defeated Emma Blackstone and Maddie Bjellos (MM), 6-0, 6-2;

No. 2 - Toedter and Yoerg (BB) defeated Kallie Christianson and Jewel Zimmerman-gilman (MM), 6-0, 6-0;

No. 3 - Hendrickson and Murphy (BB) defeated Emma Cordell and Bailey Hoffman (MM), 6-4, 6-3.

Chisago Lakes 4, Becker 3 

In their only hiccup for the week, the Bulldogs lost a close match to Chisago Lakes Monday afternoon on the road.

No. 1 - Nuest (BB) defeated Greta Gillach (CL), 6-4, 6-4;

No. 2 - Malia Mckinnon (CL) defeated Ritchie (BB), 6-3, 7-5;

No. 3 - Moe (BB) defeated Lauryn Lundberg (CL), 6-1, 6-1;

No. 4 - Alyssa Vanornum (CL) defeated.  Brown (BB), 7-5, 6-7 (68), 7-6 (71).

Doubles

No. 1 - Bengtson and Lindquist (BB) defeated Claire Devries and Grace Devries (CL), 6-0, 6-1;

No. 2 - Jill Erickson and Chloe Zupko (CL) defeated Toedter and Yoerg (BB), 5-7, 6-0, 6-1;

No. 3 - Emily Erickson and Laine Devries (CL) defeated Murphy and Hendrickson (BB), 6-4, 6-2.

Becker traveled to Cambridge last Thursday to take on the Bluejackets and came away with an easy win.

No. 1 - Nuest (BB) defeated Chloe Hajek (CI) 4-6, 6-0, 6-2;

No. 2 - Ashley Ladd,  (CI) defeated Ritchie (BB), 6-4, 4-6, 6-3;

No. 3 - Moe (BB) defeated Natalie Randall (CI), 4-6, 6-4, 6-2;

No. 4 - Brown (BB) defeated Ava Lowman (CI), 6-2, 7-6 (72);

Doubles

No. 1 - Lindquist and Bengtson (BB) defeated Maddie Pynes and Mckenzie Rafftery (CI), 6-2, 6-2;

No. 2 - Yoerg and  Toedter (BB) defeated Maddie Lawrence and Sarah Baker (CI), 6-3, 6-1;

No. 3 - Murphy and Hendrickson (BB) defeated Ella Orvik and Paige Yurczyk (CI), 6-3, 7-5.

Up Next

The Bulldogs travel to Pine City Monday, then head to StaFit in Sartell Thursday morning to start sections. They will have the #2 or #3 seed with a strong possibility of extending their season all the way to the state tournament.
