The Becker boys and girls track teams competed in Pierz last Friday night against three area teams.
The girls finished first and the boys second against teams from Pierz, Crosby-Ironton and Upsala/Swanville.
Boys Track & Field
Becker had a strong showing and finished with 84 points, just 14 points away from Pierz who won the meet with 98 points.
Luke Lahr won the 3200 meter run with a 10:55 time in his first 3200 of the season. He also finished second with a 4:52 (personal best) in the 1600 meters.
Austin Soare had a good meet with a second place finish in the 100 Meters (11.89) and also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 18'3". Soare also anchored the winning 4x100 relay team with a time of 48.57 with team members Bhavin Bhakta, Gabe Dertinger and Luke Schmitz.
The boys 4x200 team also captured first place with a time of 1:39.93, which is their best time of the season.
Team members included Jaylin Hildebrandt, Mathew Davalos, Andrew Davalos and Kevin Andres.
Andrew Davalos and Andres finished third and fourth in the 400 meters respectively with times of 55.6 and 56.5. Davalos and Andres were also part of the 4x400 relay team that finished second (3:54.5) with team members Hildebrandt and Mathew Davalos.
Dertinger won the pole vault and finished third in the long jump as well as fourth in the 100 meters.
Kreston Gammon won the boys shot put with a 44'1" toss and was second in the discus with a throw of 115' 5".
James Nikolov, jumping in only his second meet of the year, cleared 5'6" in the high jump, earning him third place.
Bhakta and Hildebrandt finished third and fourth in the 200 meters with 25.3 and 25.39 times.
Logan Galus competed for the second time in the 300 hurdles and finished third with a 50.98 time while Adam Bauman finished fourth in the 800 meter run.
Dillon Radunz finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 97'04" and Jacob Woerley finished fifth in the shot with a throw of 35'7".
“Overall our effort was great,” said Head Coach Paul Schmidt. “I told our kids that we had a good shot at winning the meet and I credit all the athletes that competed in helping us come very close to our goal.”
Team scores were: 1). Pierz - 98; 2). Becker - 84; 3). Crosby-Ironton - 49; 4). Upsala/Swanville - 34.
Girls Track & Field
Hannah Schmidt took first in the pole vault (9-6) for Becker as the girls track and field team took home the first place prize at Pierz last Friday night.
Becker had seven first place finishers, nine second place finishers and nine personal best performances.
Montanna Edling placed first in the triple jump (31'2"), second in the 100 hurdles (18.67), third in the 300 hurdles (55.85) and was part of the winning 4x100 relay team (56.45). Other members of the 4x100 relay were Lexi Michels, Haley Hubbard and Morgan Youngdahl.
Schmidt also took second in the high jump (4' 10"), third in the 200 (29.03) and third in the 100 (14.20).
Also attaining first place was Michaela Manifold in the 400 (69.15), Aubree Lahr in the 300 hurdles (54.92) and the 4x400 relay team of Kassidy Severson, Madi Kealy, Renee Tripp and Aubree Lahr (4:42) and the 4x800 relay team of Jada Rositas, Allie Hendrickson, Tate Spinner and Allie Carver (11:52.2).
In the 400 meters, Becker took first, second, third and fourth (Manifold, Tripp, Severson, and Carver).
