Girls’ Soccer Changing Up Their Play

The Bulldog Girls Soccer team has been changing things up this year and it appears to be working, as they either won or tied each game they’ve played to date.

The team is led by Head Coach Arnold Changamire, who has been coaching for 20 years, 14 of them in the U.S. Along with high school he coaches club soccer.

Changamire is assisted by a strong group of coaches. Ben Strom is assistant varsity and JV coach, Isabelle Strom is the JV II coach, Gretchen Changamire is head middle school coach, and Steph Hemmelgarn and Ginene Ebert are assistant coaches.

This year’s team is comprised of a talented, large group of athletes, 51 in grades 9-12 and 23 in grades 7-8.

“We lost some key seniors last year, so we have to change how we play,” said Changamire. “I’m really looking forward to watching this group of players develop their own playing style.”

The team began practicing Aug. 12, and practices every day from 3:15 to 5 p.m.

“Abbey and Chloe Rothstein will be key to a lot of what we do this year,” said Changamire. “Emma Domka is being asked to do a lot this year as she’s changing her position and having to move from an advanced goal-scoring position to more of a midfield position that gives us stability. Alayna Suchy should be a goal-scoring threat, and Megan Gamble gives us stability in goal.”

The team has already been competing this season. At the invitational tournament in Delano they beat Delano 2-0 and tied Willmar 1-1. They also played three non-conference games that they won, beating Zimmerman 2-1, Little Falls 1-0, and Sartell 5-3.

Tuesday they played Sartell-St. Stephen, beating them 5-3. Thursday brought the team’s first loss, 4-0 against St. Francis.

The Bulldogs girls’ soccer team’s next game is Sept. 10 against Big Lake.
