The Becker girls golf team is starting off where it ended last season: with a Mississippi 8 Conference win.
Monday night, the girls took first place at the meet with a score of 359.
“Four of our six varsity girls scored in the top 10,” said Coach Anna Babler. “Layla Mathews earned the meet medalist title with a score of 81.”
Alexa Voller shot an 87, Avery Johnson a 90 and Nora Pilarski fired a 101.
“The girls played well for their first meet of the season,” Babler said. “It was exciting to see the girls take our first meet by 49 strokes.”
North Branch took second place with a score of 408, while the Becker JV girls came in second place just behind St. Francis.
“Our team would like to thank the Pebble Creek Women’s Club, along with Hubbard Electric, T.J. Potter Trucking, Sherburne State Bank and Lake Dental Care for providing the Mississippi 8 golfers with treat bags including cookies made by our very own Layla Mathews along with lots of other fun snacks and items,” Babler added.
The Bulldogs started the season a week ago with an invite at the Monti Country Club, as Becker placed fifth out of 17 team and Mathews finished in fourth place, shooting an 82.
Last Monday, the team hosted the Lady Bulldog Invite with Mathews shooting a 78 (fourth overall). Becker placed seventh out of 13 teams at that meet, while on last Wednesday, the team headed to Milaca for their 6-6-6 Scramble. Layla Mathews and Avery Johnson placed 4th, shooting an 81, with Becker finishing fifth out of 15 teams overall.
