The Becker Bulldog girls cross country team gathered for pizza and cupcakes Tuesday to hand out their end of season awards.
The team earned the academic gold level award for the Mississippi 8 Conference given to teams that have a team GPA between 3.4 and 4.0. Becker had a 3.92.
The Cross Country Coaches Association also awarded Becker with a Gold Award, which goes to teams with 3.75 or higher GPA.
The Scholar Athlete Award is given to the varsity letter winner who has completed their sophomore year and has the highest cumulative GPA. This year that award goes to Krista Paulson.
Academic All Conference Awards: Shelby Dawson, Isabella Duncombe, Gretchen Graftaas, Megan Gregory, Regan Hausmann, Brooklyn Karel, Jaden Kraus and Krista Paulson.
The girls who earned letter awards this year are: Shelby Dawson, Jaden Kraus, Gretchen Graftaas, Megan Gregory, Abby Nelson, Krista Paulson, Isabella Duncombe, Regan Hausmann, Brooklyn Karel, Olivia Babler, Tasha Berthiaume, Lexi Rose, Ella McDonald and Raelee Lyon. Managers were: Chloe Setrum and Abi Berning.
Also participating were: Kayla Gruenes, Raegan Leaders, Anikah Hall, Emilia Hansen, Anna Kuklok, MacKenna Smith, Mina Nelson, Natalie Trenz, Katelyn Brower, Naiya Hanson and Sophia Malisheski.
The award for Most Valuable Runner was earned by Lexi Rose, who was the team’s #1 runner the entire season.
Voted on by team members, the other individual awards given were:
Most Dedicated Runner- Megan Gregory; Most Improved Runner- Olivia Babler and Regan Hausmann; Rookie Award (given to a new team member)- Krista Paulson; Bulldog Spirit Award - Jaden Kraus; Perseverance Award- Kayla Gruenes; Bulldog Persistence Award- Abby Nelson.
In the Mississippi 8 Conference, Becker had several girls earn awards. Achieving All Conference Awards were: Lexi Rose, Tasha Berthiaume and Jaden Kraus.
Honorable Mention Awards were: Ella McDonald and Isabella Duncombe.
Outgoing Captains were: Abby Nelson, Megan Gregory and Jaden Kraus. They announced the Incoming Captains for next year: Kayla Gruenes, Regan Hausmann and Isabella Duncombe. The new captains were voted in by their teammates.
The Bulldogs said goodbye to their six seniors: Shelby Dawson, Jaden Kraus, Gretchen Graftaas, Megan Gregory, Abby Nelson and Krista Paulson. This special group of girls will be greatly missed and the team wishes them the best!
“Although we were unable to have our parents and families join us for our gathering, they remain a big part of our team and we thank them for their support,” said Head Coach Trish Kealy. “We all really enjoyed our season and are grateful for the opportunity to compete and come together.”
