BECKER SOPHOMORE JACKSON FLUCK received a hug from his head coach Dan Olson during state tournament golf at the Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan earlier this week. Fluck finished in a tie for 19th place.

Fluck Finishes Tied For 19th At State

Jackson Fluck competed in the AA State golf tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek in Jordan Tuesday and Wednesday and played well for being on such a big stage. The course was in perfect shape, but it was extremely warm Tuesday and windy Wednesday.

Fluck shot his best score of the year on the first day, carding an even par 72, which included two bogies and two birdies.

“He kept the ball in play all day,” said Head Coach Dan Olson.  “Shooting a 72 in your first state tournament is phenomenal!”

Olson said Fluck had one of the best ball striking rounds he has ever seen.

“He was never in any type of trouble and only missed a couple of greens in regulation,” said Olson. “Most of his approach shots were inside of 15 feet all day.”

Fluck ended the first day tied for ninth place, five strokes off the lead.

Day two was a bit cooler, but the wind was up.  Fluck had a solid front nine, carding a three-over 39.  On the back, he found the woods which led to a triple bogey, but he was able to hold it together and come in with a 40.  Olson was pleased saying “a 79 on the second day was a good round.”

“The pressure on being in the second-to-last group is tough to deal with and Jackson handled it well,” said his head coach. “I am extremely proud of the way he played this week.”

With Fluck’s 72-79, he finished the tournament tied for 19th.

“When you think about it, eight sections represented with sixteen teams means that 796 golfers tried to get to the state tournament,” said Olson.  “Jackson placed 19th out of the 88 golfers that made it. Pretty great accomplishment and I am very proud of him.”
