Eagles’ season ends against Cathedral

The Becker/Big Lake hockey team opened the postseason with a 6-4 victory over Mora/Milaca. The Eagles received the #8 seed in Section 5A, setting up a second matchup in as many games against the Mustangs.

The Eagles raced out to a 3-0 lead early in the second period behind goals from Tate Spilde, Gunnar Hanson, and Brayden Graning. The Mustangs responded with two goals of their own to pull with one score.

William Johnson scored his first goal of the season to give the Eagles a two-goal advantage, but the Mustangs came right back and tied the game 4-4. The score wouldn’t stay tied long as Graning found the back of the net just minutes later. Graning scored an empty net goal late to seal the victory.

Graning finished with three goals and an assist. Johnson had his best game of the season with a goal and two assists. Jase Tobako had four assists.

In their second game of the playoffs, the Eagles took on #3 ranked St. Cloud Cathedral. The Crusaders led 1-0 after the first period but dominated the rest of the way for a 10-0 victory. That loss ended the Eagles season, putting their final record at 16-10.
