Eagles Pound Mora, 7 1

The Becker Big Lake Eagles had a big Two Rivers Conference win this week, defeating the Mora Mustangs 7-1 at home Tuesday.

The Eagles took the lead early when Tristan Gust scored with an assist from Ben Gilchrist at 3:28 in the first period. Grant Vickerman scored the Eagles’ second goal with assists from Nick Stalpes and Jason Tonneslan at 6:57 and the Eagles never looked back.

In the second period, Ethan Boutin scored with an assist from Zack Vieau at 3:23. Vieau went on to score with an assist from Gilchrist at 7:46. Nick Burski put one in the back of the net for the Mustangs at the end of the second period, putting the score at 4-1 in the Eagles’ favor.

In the third period, the Eagles came out and scored three more times. Ethan Boutin scored with an assist from Vieau at 1:17. Alec Green scored in a power play with an assist from Stalpes at 4:49. Tonneslan scored at 13:02 with an assist from Stalpes.

The win was sweeter after the Eagles came off two losses last week, first against St. Cloud Cathedral, then against River Lakes.

Becker Big Lake hosted #11-ranked St. Cloud Cathedral at Princeton last Thursday. Cathedral jumped out to an early lead as they scored two goals to take a 2-0 in the first period. Cathedral continued to roll scoring two more quick goals at the start of the second period.

The Eagles  cut into the lead scoring two goals of their own to make it 4-2 but Cathedral kept coming at them as they added two more to take a 6-2 lead going into the final period. “Cathedral’s speed proved to be to much as they would add another two goals to take an 8-2 win over the Eagles,” said Assistant Coach Scott Barta.

The Eagles’ goals were scored by Brandon Christianson and Elliott Darsow while Ethan Huber and Ben Manzke played in net.

The Eagles lost to River Lakes 3-1, in an away game at Richmond last Friday. River Lakes scored two unanswered goals in the first period. In the second period, Ethan Boutin scored for the Eagles with assists from Gust and Vieau at 5:27. But River Lakes came back and scored again and the game ended in their favor.

The Eagles take on Pine City Tuesday and Highland Park Thursday in two away games. Their next home game is versus Legacy Christian Academy Saturday at 7:15 p.m. Their record is 8-9.
