Clear Lake Lakers Hold Onto Third Place

The Clear Lake Lakers are halfway through their spring and summer season with their recors standing at 7-8 in third place. Here is a recap of most of their games leading up to this week: 

Clear Lake 10,  Hibbing 0
 
The Lakers topped Hibbing 10-0 behind Matt Korte's fine pitching performance in the first round of the Highway 55 Tournament the weekend of June 14-15. 
Korte gave up only two hits.  
 
Rich Petty was 1-3 with two RBI's, Sam Iten went 1-3 with a RBI and a stolen base. Korte was 2-2 with two runs scored, Andrew Setrum had two walks, was hit by pitch and scored two runs. Brett Watercott had two RBI's and a stolen base and Kyle Sytsma was 1-2 with a run scored.
 
Clear Lake 10, Hibbing 4
 
Both teams were held scoreless until the fourth inning when the Lakers exploded for six runs, then pushed another four more runs across the plate the next inning to crush the Hibbing Miners in a shutout June 14.
 
Leading the way at the plate for the Lakers was Korte, who went 2-2, scored twice and was hit by a pitch. Former Becker Bulldog high schoolers Brett Watercott and Jeremy Welle played in the game with Watercott scoring twice and driving in two and Welle scoring once.
 
Korte pitched the entire five-inning game and gave up two hits, no runs and struck out seven.
 
Sartell 12, Lakers 2
 
Sartell jumped out quickly on the Lakers, scoring five runs in the first and four runs in the second to cruise to an easy victory over Clear Lake June 8.
 
The Lakers managed just five hits while the Muskies whalloped 18 in the 10-run win.
 
The Muskies’ offense was led by Tim Burns, as he went 4-5 with two home runs, a double and three RBI's. Brian Schellinger went 2-2 with three RBI's. Jake Sweeter was 3-5 with an RBI and a stolen base, Rob Voshell was 3-5 with three runs scored. Luke Sweeter went 1-4 including a double for two RBI's and Jace Otto was 2-3 with one RBI.
 
Kimball 9, Lakers 6
 
The Express of Kimball topped Clear Lake by three runs June 6. 
 
Aaron Laabs was the pitcher of record. 
 
Adam Beyer was the offensive leader for Kimball as he went 2-4 with three RBI's including a home run and he scored three runs. Brooks Marquardt was 1-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Joey VanWalde was 1-2 with two RBI's, Zach Dingmann 1-4 with one RBI and Ben Johnson was 2-4. Chase Aleshire was the pitcher of record for Clear Lake. 
 
Korte lead the Lakers’ offense as he had a single, double and a triple. Darren Prom had a very good day at the plate as he collect three hits.
 
Bird Island 18, Lakers 3
 
The Bird Island Bullfrogs continued to swing hot bats, scoring 18 runs on 18 hits in a non-league matchup against the Clear Lake Lakers May 30. 
 
Litchfield 4, Lakers 1
 
The Lakers dropped a Sauk Valley league game to Litchfield by three, May 25. 
 
Korte took the pitching loss. Jason Systma was 2-5, Rich Petty was 1-3, Jason Kote was 1-4 and Jake Samuelson was 1-3 to lead the Lakers’ offense.
 
Lakers 10, St. Joseph 2
 
The Lakers topped the Joe's of St. Joseph 10-2 in Sauk Valley League action May 24. 
 
R. J. Cervenka pitched a complete game for the win, recording six strikeouts. Leading the way at the plate was Aleshire with three hits and two RBI'S and Jason Kotchevar with three hits and three RBI's. 
 
Alex Kendal took the loss for St. Joseph and leading the Joe's were Caz Novak with two hits, including a double. Joe Barrett also had two hits.
 
Maple Lake 9,  Clear Lake 3
 
The Maple Lake Lakers took down Clear Lake in their home opener May 16, 9-3. 
 
Jake Johnson threw five shutout innings and Todd Fuller picked up the three inning save. 
 
Lakers 12, Litchfield 6
 
Clear Lake Lakers posted 12 runs to Litchfield Blues six to earn their season opener win, May 15. 
 
Sam Iten received the win on the mound for the Lakers. Clear Lake received help on the mound from Prom and Sytsma.
 
The Lakers had several players posting two hits and had great run support for  their pitching staff. Andrew Setrum made his amateur baseball debut playing right field for all nine innings.
 
Next Up
Up next for the Lakers is a game June 20 at Pearl Lake starting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday they head to Foley for a 1:30 p.m. game before heading to St. Joes Wednesday for a 6:15 p.m. game. They finish off the week with a game at Sartell Saturday and at Foley Sunday — both games starting at 1:30 p.m.
