Buzzards, Lakers Take Holiday Off, Gear Up For Big Games In July

The two area men’s adult baseball teams did not have games this past week due to the fourth of July holiday, but are gearing up for more ball this month and playoffs just around the corner.
 
Becker Buzzards
The Buzzards are 1-3 and in a tie for last place in the Central Minnesota League. Cold Spring is undefeated (6-0) followed by Alexandria Classic Clippers at 0-2 and the Fort Ripley Silver Rebels at 1-3.
 
Becker has lost 9-1 and 7-0 to Cold Spring and lost 2-0 to Fort Ripley. Their lone win came against the Silver Rebels (3-1) June 28.
 
The Buzzards’ next game will be July 19 when they host the first place Cold Spring Silver Springers.  A July 5 doubleheader against Alexandria has been rescheduled for August 15.
 
The state tournament is scheduled for the weekends of Aug. 21-22 and Aug. 29-30.  
 
Clear Lake Lakers
According to their 2015 website, the Lakers are 2-3 in the Sauk Valley League including a seventh-place finish at the June 27-28 Staples Tournament.
 
Clear Lake played at Litchfield Friday at 7 p.m. and will host a home doubleheader Sunday at 1:30 and 4 p.m. against Foley.
 
The league playoffs begin July 22 with regionals set to begin August 8-9.
