Buzzards Fall To 1 5 With Doubleheader Loss

The Becker Buzzards lost both games of a double header last Saturday against the Central Minnesota League leading Cold Spring Silver Springers (8-0) at  Cold Spring Ballpark to drop to 1-5.

Springers 8, Buzzards 1

The temperature was hot but the Buzzards’ bats were cold as they collected just four hits and one run in the first game.

Matt Eigen started for the Buzzards on the mound and Dave Hinnenkamp came in for relief for Becker.

“Our defense and pitching was good the first game,” said Co-Manager Deron Trovall. “The Silver Springers are just great ballplayers. They take advantage of runners in scoring position and don’t make many mistakes”.

Springers 14, Buzzards 2

The second game didn’t fare much better as the Buzzards lost by 12 in five innings.

The game two starter was Jim Hanson, who took the loss while walking six batters and allowing 14 runs in 2-1/3 innings.

Hinnenkamp came in and recorded the final two outs of the third inning. Brian Kolbinger was brought in to start the fourth inning and pitched the remainder of the game.

“Jimbo (Hanson) has always pitched well against these guys in the past, that’s why he got the call for the second game,” Trovall said.

The Buzzards dismal performance at the plate continued as only six hits were recorded for the visitors.
