In what has turned into a very good rivalry, the Becker swimming and diving team took on the Foley Falcons last week and came away with a convincing 104-80 victory.
“It’s always a fun meet when we swim against Foley and there are going to be some really good races and the outcome could go either way - it just depends on how the girls finish the race,” Coach Tina Tamm said. “We switched some girls’ events around for this one and it worked out in our favor. We came away with a good number of first place finishes.”
Event winners for the Bulldogs included the 200 Medley Relay team of Laila Cook, Izza Mork, Josie Reckelberg and Kailey McGowan, while Mork finished with four total wins, adding a winning time in the 100 Freestyle race and was part of the winning 200 Freestyle Relay team (with Cook, Reckelberg and Grace Mork).
Grace Mork added two more individual wins to her outstanding season so far with top finishes in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke.
Karli Kirk was the top diver in the event, while Cook added a 500 Freestyle win for the Bulldogs.
Kandell Hagen was the top finisher in the 100 Breaststroke to help seal the convincing win for Becker.
Tigers
Thursday night, the Bulldogs scored a nearly identical type of win, taking the 103-77 M8 Conference matchup over the Princeton Tigers.
“We match up pretty good with Princeton and usually have some close races,” Tamm said. “We again switched our girls around to get them different races and allow them to rest from their usual events.”
Tamm said that the section qualifying times continue to mount for the Bulldogs.
“We continue to improve our times and qualify more girls for more events,” said the coach.
Upcoming matches include a Tuesday night meet in Albany and a Parent’s Night home matchup Thursday evening versus Cambridge-Isanti.
“We are 2.5 weeks away from the True Team meet (held at Becker) so we will now focus on the events that the girls want to swim at sections,” Tamm said. “They may qualify for multiple events, but they can only swim two individual events.”
