The Becker Bulldog swimming and diving team knocked off the Princeton Tigers last Thursday, push-ing the Bulldogs’ record to 3-2 on the season.
“We are at the halfway point of the season and the girls are working hard,” said coach Tina Tamm. “We are swimming really well and are looking to add more wins to our total as we go into the second half of the season.”
The team continued to impress with improved times against the Tigers, with Haiden Berrios lead-ing the way as she took 7.5 seconds off her time in the 200 freestyle.
On the diving board, Sarah and Lauren Woelfel continue to dominate and provide some excitement for the Bulldogs.
“They seem to have a ‘friendly’ competition between the two of them which makes watching diving fun,” added Tamm. “We never know until the last dive is completed as to who the winner will be.”
Monticello Magic
Last Tuesday, Becker fell to the Monticello Magic in a tough competition.
“They are really good and that makes our girls swim faster,” said Tamm. “There may be a loss at the end of the night when swimming against Monti but we always walk away with better times.”
Nadine Super was credited with the biggest time drop, as she shaved just under 11 seconds off her time in the 500 free-style.
Postseason
The MSHSL an-nounced this week that sec-tion play will commence for swimming and diving the week of Oct. 19. State tournament play is still undecided and TBA.
For sections, the meet will be a timed finals format with a maximum of four teams at one site. Sections will be responsible for determining the sites and the teams to attend each competition. Timed scores will determine section team and individual winners.
Roster sizes will also be limited, with each team allowed to bring 22 athletes to the event, which will in-clude a maximum of four entries per team per event. No fans will be allowed at school pools, while events held at public pools will have to follow MDH guidelines limiting indoor crowds.
