The Becker Bulldogs boys golf team is trending towards their best play of the season as the season winds down with section playoffs looming June 6.
Brainerd Invitational
The Bulldogs had a strong showing at the Brainerd Invitational at the Preserves Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs tied for seventh with Anoka with Alex Stanz medaling with a one-over-par 73 (Stanz won a scorecard playoff against two other players).
Jackson Fluck tied for seventh with a 76. Zach Stanz (83), Brandon Abrahamson (85) and Austin Seavert (86) were the other players for Becker.
“Kids played great on the toughest course we will play this year,” said Head Coach Dan Olson. “Alex was five over par after seven holes, then played the last 11 holes four under par with a streak of three birdies in a row.”
Becker Invitational
Becker’s final Granite Ridge Conference meet for the year was Monday at Pebble Creek.
The Bulldogs started the day 28 strokes behind Cathedral in the race for first place and finished the day only nine strokes down.
“The guys followed up a great showing at Detroit Lakes with an impressive win at home,” said Olson.
Becker shot a season best 153.
Alex Stanz led the way with a 37, Fluck had a 38, Sogard and Zach Stanz had 39s, Foster carded a 40 and Abrahamson a 42.
“We have been playing some great golf and are on the right track heading towards sections,” said Olson.
East/West Invitational
The boys heading to bemidji over the weekend to play at Bemidji Town and Country and Headwaters Golf Courses.
The Bulldogs were in third place at the end of day one with an impressive score of 314 at Bemidji Town and Country golf course.
“BTC is a tough course,” said Coach Dan Olson. “There is some level of elevation change on every hole. The greens have way more slope and undulations than any greens we have played this season.”
Becker was led by a pair of 77's from Alex Stanz and Brandon Abrahamson. Michael Sogard had a 79 and the team carded a pair of 81's from Jackson Fluck and Zach Stanz. Caleb Foster had an 83.
The Bulldogs followed up a great first day with an equally impressive second day at Headwaters Golf Course in Park Rapids. Fluck led the way on day two with a 77. Zach Stanz shot a 78, Alex Stanz a 79, Sogard an 81, Foster an 86 and Abrahamson an 87.
Alex Stanz tied for 10th, but lost on a scorecard playoff for the All-Tournament team. Fluck tied for 14th, Zach Stanz tied for 17th and Sogard tied for 21st.
The team was able to hold on to third place and were only seven strokes behind first place Moorhead.
Granite Ridge Awards
Alex Stanz tied for first place in the Granite Ridge Conference and was named all-conference.
Sogard finished in 12th place in the conference and received an all-conference honorable mention.
Fluck finished in sixth place in the conference and received all-conference honors, Foster garnered 10th place and an honorable mention, Zach Stanz gained 11th place and an honorable mention and Abrahamson was 17th place (one spot out of honorable mention).

The Bulldogs play At Brainerd Wednesday against Staples-Motley, then at Albany to close out the regular season Saturday.
Sections begin Monday, June 6 at Blackberry Ridge.
