In another hotly-contested, low-scoring battle, the Becker Bulldog football team pulled out the win against Holy Angles, 14-0, last Friday on the road to remain undefeated.
Becker now heads into homecoming week with a 3-0 record, ready to face-off against Willmar who, surprisingly, sits at 0-3.
Last Friday, the first half of the game was a defensive dogfight as neither team could find the end zone through two quarters. Becker finally broke through and scored in the thrid quarter when Mitchell Soltau reeled in a 36-yard pass from QB Kaden Nicolas for six points. Evan Norberg converted the extra point kick and the Bulldogs were feeling good about their chances as the defense continued to dominate the matchup.
Later in the third, Isaac Daluge rambled 39 yards out for a TD score to increase Becker’s lead. Norberg made the conversion and the Bulldogs had a two-score lead.
The rest of the way was the two defenses dominating the field of play until the clock ran out and Becker headed home with a 14-0 win.
The Bulldogs accumulated 247 yards on offesne to just 106 for Holy Angels. Each team ran 45+ plays but it was Becker’s defensive unit that stood out in the victory.
Daluge finished with 101 yards on 11 carries and the one score. Landen Kujawa had 86 yards on the ground on 12 carries as the Bulldogs focused on their running attacke throughout the night. They had just 48 yards through the air while Holy Angels had just 45 yards.
Defensive End John Boecker led all Bulldog defenders with six tackles and two assists including two tackles for loss.
Daluge and Nathan Weiss each had an interception in the contest.
