Bulldogs Go 2 2 This Week, Record Is Now 5 2

The Becker Bulldog boys basketball team went 3-1 this past week, dropping their first game of the year in a nail-biter at Sartell Tuesday.

Becker 66, Big Lake 62

In an exciting finish to a classic Becker/Big Lake matchup, the Bulldogs barely squeezed out a win on home court against rival Big Lake last Friday night.
The Bulldogs were doing everything right in the first half — stifling the Hornet offense and scoring at will as they led the first frame by 33-17 when the two squads headed for the locker rooms.

Something or someone inspired the Hornets as they stormed back and almost forced a tie at the end of regulation before Becker closed the door. Big Lake got scoring from Austin Miller, who had 18 points, Tanner Teige, who had 12 and Mason Miller who had 11.

Becker was led by Yoerg (13) and Conzemius (13) and the team shot 40% from the field and 67% at the free throw line. The Bulldogs also got scoring from McCalla (10), Fobbe (8), Lindquist (4), Davalos (8) and Radunz (10).

Becker 58, Zimmerman 49

Becker travelled to Zimmerman last Saturday to take on the Thunder and pulled out a nine-point.

Fobbe and Radunz led the Bulldogs in scoring, each netting 12 points on the day.

Zimmerman was led by Damie Vengstad, who had 16 and Chandler Wellman, who had 15.

The Thunder led at halftime by three, 25-22, but the Bulldogs took control in the second half and behind Fobbe and Radunz, tallied 37 to Zimmerman’s 24 to pull out the win.

Becker also got scoring from McCalla (6), Yoerg (11), Tyler Lindquist (3), Davalos (7), Cody Gruenhagen (2) and Jack Conzemius (5).

Sartell 69, Becker 67

The Becker Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the year  Tuesday at Sartell as the Sabres eked out the win by two points.

Senior guard Grant Olson made five free throws down the stretch to lift the Sabres to a nonconference win over Becker.

The Bulldogs started the game on the wrong foot, falling behind the Sabres by 14 at the half. But the Bulldogs stormed back, almost catching the home team by scoring 46 points to Sartell’s 34 in the second frame.

The Bulldogs had five scorers in double figures with Hunter McCalla leading the way with 13 points. Matt Yoerg netted 12 as well as Jake Fobbe and Andrew Davalos and Dillon Radunz each had 10 points apiece.

Sartell’s Olson finished with 14 points and Carter Neuenschwander also reached double figures for the Sabres (1-5) with 13 points.

Becker finished the game shooting 44% from the field while Sartell shot 51%. Each team had 17 turnovers while Becker had 10 team steals, 31 rebounds and 12 assists.
