In dominating fashion, the Becker Bulldog football team celebrated their Homecoming game with an all-out thrashing of the Willmar Cardinals last Friday night.
The final score was 42-7.
The first quarter of the game was uneventful as the first 12 minutes ended in a 0-0 tie. However, Becker gained its footing and pumped out six straight TD scores before relenting a late seven points to the Cardinals in the fourth quarter.
Becker started the second quarter off with a TD score from QB Sawyer Brown, who rambled in from two yards out. Brown would end up scoring another TD on the ground later in the quarter sandwiching the four yard TD run of Landen Kujawa.
In the third, Brown hit Carter Reckelberg from 42 yards out for another score to put Becker up 28-0. Kujawa followed that with his second TD of the game as he crossed the goal line from nine yards out to make it 35-0.
Brown capped the Becker scoring by connecting with Reckelberg again — this time from 66 yards out — to put the score at 42-0.
Late in the fourth, Willmar’s Isaac Cayler prevented the shutout by tumbling into the end zone from nine yards out to make the final 42-7.
Brown finished eight-of-12 for 213 yards and two passing TDs as well as his two rushing TDs.
Kujawa had his two scores on 15 carries for 70 yards.
Reckelberg led the receiving corps with his two catches for 108 yards and two scores.
On defense, Cody Klatt led the Bulldogs with eight tackles including two sacks. Johnathon Boecker had three tackles including one sack as well as Cody Deters.
Becker finished with 309 total yards to Willmar’s 141. The Bulldogs had 16 first downs compared to Willmar’s eight.
Becker improved to 4-0 while Willmar fell to 0-4 on the season. Up next, Becker travels to Hutchinson Friday.
