JUNIOR MIDFIELDER KINSLEY HURT had one of the 21 goals Becker scored against Columbia Heights last Friday. Kinsley said “We’ve been on the other side of a lopsided score — it’s not fun — but you don’t wanted the other team to quit playing”.

Bulldogs Blow Out Hylanders, 21 2

The Becker Bulldog girl’s lacrosse team had one of their “easiest” contests last Friday, crushing Columbia Heights, 21 - 2.

Columbia Heights had graduated 12 seniors last year and is rebuilding their program after gaining a new coaching staff in the offseason.  The Hylanders are  composed of mostly freshman and sophomores , so their inexperience surfaced against Becker’s veteran squad.

Becker Head Coach Hugh Hovde had the luxury of playing all his girls against Columbia Heights and seeing how they play at certain positions. All of Hovde’s players who set foot on the pitch scored at least one goal except three.

The scoring started out fast with Becker scoring the first couple goals.  The Hylanders scored at 18:32 when a lapse in the Becker defense led to a goal.

The one goal to the Hylanders was all the Bulldogs surrendered in the first half and when the horn sounded, the scoreboard showed Becker up 12-1.

In the second half, Hovde substituted the team’s backup goalie, Samantha Stellmach to get some time between the pipes.

“Being the backup goalie is tough,” said Hovde. “You’re at every game having to be ready to go in at a moments notice, yet knowing chances are you probably won’t.”

Hovde said Stellmach has done a great job as the starter on the JV squad, so “it was nice to see her playing some varsity time.”

The Bulldogs did not slow down on offense in the final period and tallied another nine goals while surrendering just one.

“We played a lot of different positions and worked on different parts of our game,” said Kinsley Hurt.  “We’ve been on the other side of a lopsided score — it’s not fun — but you don’t want the other team to quit playing.”

Sydney Stommes led the Bulldogs with four goals. Daisy Kent had three, Rachel Eisenreich and Kelsi Halvorson had two and Reilly Cencer, Jessie Charbonneau, Hannah Bengtson, Allie Zimmer, Brookelyn Beutz, Jamie Ulsby, Bria Amundson, Anna Ritchie, Kirston Fitzgerald and  Hurt  each had one.
